"Dry Creek Rd" - Mack Keane
Around this time last year, I randomly discovered Mack Keane in Los Angeles. He was playing a free acoustic set in DTLA. I was in a shop when I heard his set. My friend and I were getting ready to leave but he sounded so good, we had to stay for the whole set. And what an incredible performer he is. My mind was blown. I remember his set was the most crowded one from that afternoon - his ability to get people's attention was undeniable. He was made for this. One of my favorite discoveries for sure. And that's why I love LA so much, and that is why I miss LA every day. After his set, I went back to my airbnb and studied all his songs for a few hours. I've been listening to him since that day. His Donna Ave was on repeat for weeks. What a record.
He recently dropped his new EP Dry Creek Rd and it is the release I've been waiting for. I honestly was getting a little bored with music lately, but this new Keane’s project changed the game. Keane's vocals and production never disappoint. He takes us back to the roots of r&b while adding his own signature to create something colorful and soulful. You know “Unholy Matrimony” is an instant banger right after you heard the first two seconds. The production on this one is the best I heard from him so far. The bridge on “Holy Matrimony” is unexpected and it is my favorite part.
Dry Creek Rd is one of the most interesting and refreshing releases of the month. He delivered something unique and tried new things with his production and it worked perfectly.
Keane’s vocals are what caught my attention last year and it is still the thing that gets my attention before anything else. But he is not just a great vocalist, he is also a brilliant musician/producer, and overall, an incredible Artist. You can tell he LOVES what he does and knows exactly who he is as an artist. I hope to see him perform again very soon, but for now, let’s just play Dry Creek Rd :)
