While the German hip-hop scene keeps growing everyday, Dawid DST is making his own way and is evolving through his unique music.
Introduce yourself.
My name is Dawid Barzideh and I’m a Koblenz-based musician from Germany.
When and how did you start working in the music industry?
I think it began with my production for Karmo Kaputto. He´s a Berlin rapper. I produced “Auf Locker” for his Album Pizdez.
Coming from Germany, the hip-hop music scene is pretty important. Where do you see yourself in this?
I’ve just made my first steps. Neue Schule is my second EP but it is my first professional produced project. It’s only the beginning of something big, I think.
The time of hiding and producing for my own ears is over ;).
How would you describe your style?
I try to switch my style and I want every song to sound different, but it is very experimental, there are no limits. It’s all about the song.
When I want to rap, I will rap. And if I want to sing, I will sing. It doesn’t matter if it’s an old school sample beat or a synthi based cloud rap instrumental.
You are a rapper, and a songwriter. You produce and mix your own records. What are the challenges when doing all these things by yourself? What do you like to do the most? Why?
I can not even say what I like the most. Every step is important and my love for the music is equal. Mostly, I even do not see the difference between all of it. It’s just one single process when I work.
The greatest problem are the headaches when you have to do everything by yourself.
You need discipline and stamina when you want your product to be perfect.

You recently released your EP ‘Neue Schule’. Could you tell us the story behind this EP? Who did you work with? What is the main topic of this EP?
Yeah, I wanted to make special music, nothing normal. My goal was to drop an EP that will be localy undefeated, and I made it. I recorded in Koblenz in the “Esco Records Studios”.
My Mastering Enginner is Niklas Neumann, check him out. He’s on fire. I’ve featured two of my friends and local artists Yaw Herra and Dirrty Harry.
The cover and the artwork, and all the other stuff were made by myself.
The main topic is good music, an emotional atmospheric sound that leads you to another world. A world of basses synthesizers and vocal harmonies.
You released a couple videos. What vision do you have for your own art?
I want the focus to be on the sound and the music, not the video, even if it is very important nowadays.
I like simple videos, the most important is the track.
What message do you want to deliver through your videos and records?
Believe in your skills, train your skills and the success will come. But when it’s about the music, every song has a different message.
In your opinion, what is the best song you ever worked on so far?
Every song is something like an baby, like and child. It is unmorraly to have a favourite child.
How would you define hip-hop?
Hip-hop is the music of the underdogs. If you don’t want to be part of the society, there is another society waiting for you, and that is hip-hop.
If you’re sad, mad or disappointed or in love, just write a song or make a beat and help your emotions to be released.
What’s the main difference between the hip-hop from the 90s and today’s hip-hop?
To be honest, I don’t listen to oldschool hip-hop. I like the top produced modern types of hip-hop. I think we can’t compare one to the other.
What types of music do you listen to?
Only hip-hop. But at the moment I listen to “Pnl”. That’s the optimum in my opinion.

Where do you get your inspiration from?
My life, my experiences, sounds, samples, melodies. Just everything around me.
Nowadays, it is pretty easy to put any music out and the goal is to be heard by people. How do you promote your music?
Thank God we have social media and the internet. I only promote through Facebook, Spotify, Soundcloud, Instagram, Youtube and Snapchat. It’s fast, cheap and uncomplicated.
What appeals you the most about music?
Music doesn’t lie. Music is always there. It doesn’t matter who you are. If you make music, you’re in another world. It’s like a best friend. Take my money, take my clothes but let my music and me alone ;)
What is your motto?
Work Work Work !
