Ronell Sessoms is a producer from Virginia. I am blessed and honored to work with such a great talent because his style is different and unique. Your goal, as an artist, is to constantly evolve with your style , but also to be different from anyone else. I can definitely say that about Ronell Sessoms.

When and how did you start making music?

My parents bought me a Basic Yamaha Keyboard for Christmas in Elementary School. I started off by playing the congas in my church with the church band. By the 6th grade I started making up beats and learning the chords with a drum machine and a Yamaha Keyboard. By the 8th grade I was recording to cassette tapes. I also taught myself how to play the keyboard and the drums.

Tell us about your different experiences in the music industry. What appeals you the most about making music?

Coming straight out of High School, I moved from Virginia to Orlando, Florida and there I went to Full Sail University. Graduated with Ass. Of Science in Recording Arts, a Bachelor in music and another Bachelor Degree in Internet Marketing. After school I had the opportunity to be around and work with some of the greatest production camps out of Virginia such as Pharrell Williams, Timbaland, & Binkdog. This has really made me a versatile producer.

Creating your own sound / lane that nobody else can really step in and also see how people in the industry moves to your music. It’s a great feeling.

How do you get your inspiration? What do you do when you want to extend your creativity?

I will usually go to to a hotel that may have 12 – 15 floors. Then I will stay in one of those rooms on the top floors so that I can look down at the city and I will make a good 10 to 15 records back to back in one night.

Which artists would you like to collaborate with? Why?

Some of the artists are Kendrick Lamar, Jill Scott, The Weeknd, Drake, Phillip Phillips, Lupe Fiasco, and Emeli Sande.

I’ve chosen these artists for they have inspired me throughout my career.

What do you think of today’s music? In your opinion, what makes a good song?

Today’s hip-hop music is okay but personally and musically, I feel it can be much better. I barely listen to the local radio stations anymore unless they are playing Top 40 Records.

A good song to me is basically a catchy / dope hook that people can remember, with amazing chord progressions, insane baselines, and most importantly drums that will finish off the record.

What music inspires you today?

Music from Canada, The U.K. , and other places inspire me today. The Foreign Exchange, The Weeknd, Rick Ross, Kendrick Lamar, Pharrell, and Jay-Z inspire me also.

What advices would you give to young producers and young artists?

Create your own sound to keep your name relevant in the game and perfect that sound everyday.
