Shan Smile

Shan Smile. She’s one of these beautiful artists who bring love, joy and hope to the world. Her enthusiasm is quite contagious. Shan Smile is not just an incredible vocalist, she is also a great lyricist and a great performer.

I believe that we all have a purpose in life and I think that Shan’s purpose is to spread positivity and inspiration through her music.

She will be releasing a new EP ‘Prisoner of Hope’, on September 9th 2016. But for now, I’ll let you get to know her a bit more.

Introduce yourself.

Hey, My name is Shan Smile. I am a Singer Songwriter from London.

When and how did you start singing? What’s your favorite memory about your early singing days?

I started singing because of the influence from my Dad. I used to attend all of his shows/studio sessions and sing with him. From then I have never stopped Singing.
One of favourite early singing memories is recording my first ever cover song with my dad. It was a song called - Little Girl Blue.

Who did you grow up listening to?

Artists such as; Sam Cooke, Randy Crawford, Shanice Wilson, Michael Jackson, Bob Marley, Nina Simone.

How would you describe yourself as an artist?

I’d say a relatable, smiley, soulful & real artist.

You’ve been in the industry for a little while now. What was the biggest challenge you’ve experienced? What was your greatest accomplishment so far?

My biggest challenge I’d say would be to keep going despite everything.
My biggest accomplishment so far would be creating my new EP which will be out in September.

What do you like the most about music?

I love the fact that it brings everyone together and we’re free to release and express ourselves.

I consider music as a passion before considering it as a job. What’s your opinion about it?

Definitely! I agree. I give God thanks that I am able to do music as a full time job!
Obviously you should know the ins and out but If you love it, it will show & that outlook will work for you.

How often do you create music?

As often as I can. I now aim to create music on a much more regular basis. But when you’re an independent artist you have to work on many different aspects of music (promoting, business, performing & so much more).

What makes a good song? Do you study other records when creating your own music?

A good song is one you can personally relate too, lyrically and melodically. Everyone has different opinions, so what you may think is good may be different from what I think is good.
I do study other records, that’s how I learn. I think I have been from young!

Do you write by yourself or with a group of people? Or both?

Definitely both. I aim to do more co-writing.

What makes a good music team?

Good communication, professionalism, the right personalities and also talent.

‘Don’t Worry About Tomorrow’ is probably my favorite song of yours. How did this song come about? Where did you get your inspiration?

Awww, that’s lovely to hear. Thank you!
This was the first Original song i wrote when I was 14years old. I wrote it for a competition I won at the Brit School (BRIT iDol). I was worrying about (tomorrow) what I was going to sing for the Finals. So I looked in my Bible and came across a scripture from Matthew 6:34 & wrote the song based off of that & experiences I saw people go through. :)

Do you stay up to date with today’s new music? What do you think about it?

I do, for sure! It has changed a lot! There’s so much more electronic based music now. Everybody wants to dance. Lol. Which I think is cool. I am a fan of Pop music. I love to dance! There’s also so many great underground artists around which I love. Talent is everywhere. I thank social media! Lol.

Why do you make music?
I make music because I love it & I always have made music. It’s my way of inspiring & bringing some light/hope to peoples lives.

What are the skills that someone would need to work in the music industry?

Have good people skills. Study the field you’re interested in. Work hard at it every day & love what you do.

Yes! I will be releasing my Prisoner of Hope EP on the 9th September 2016.
Exciting times. It’s been 3 years since I’ve released new music.

What message do you want to deliver to the world?

Just to never give up & smile. Live this one life that God has given us to the fullest. It’s never too late to be the best version of yourself.

What’s your purpose?

My purpose is to inspire others. To make the world a better place with my music and smiles.
