Raye Zaragoza releases her new music video "American Dream"
Singer/songwriter Raye Zaragoza released her new video “American Dream”, on January 26th.
Produced by Zaragoza, the acoustic folk record is inspired by the violence seeing on the news and it tells the story of Zaragoza’s great grandmother, a Native American (O'odham heritage), who was forced into a boarding school at a very young age. In the late nineteenth century, Native Americans were forced to send their children to these schools, where they were forbidden to speak their Native languages.
“Her story haunts me, because so many people don’t realize the awful things that have happened in this country just within the past 100 years. The only way to move forward is to acknowledge that change is a choice that can start with you”, reveals Zaragoza.
Accompanied by David Adley on the violin, Zaragoza reveals a heartfelt and personal record, inviting the listener to really pay attention to her important message.
Directed by George Thomas, the music video captures elements of hate and violence displayed on the news after Donald Trump’s election. Starring Gregory Zaragoza, Madison Malone, Amelia Harris, Anthony Fedorov, Jennifer Paz and Julian Paz Fedorov, the video conveys a poignant message: “hate can’t be the face of the American dream”.

Mexican, Japanese, Taiwanese and Native American, Zaragoza’s multi-cutural identity clearly influenced her songwriting in many ways.
The singer/songwriter unveiled her debut album Fight For You in May 2017, which includes the protest single “In The River”. The inspiring 8 track album is a collection of traditional-folk records that reveals Zaragoza’s great power of eloquence.
“This album is about finding yourself and finding your voice. It’s about maturing and realizing that you can make a difference if you choose to.”
“In The River”, which was written to support the movement against the Dakota Access Pipeline, has been awarded Number 2 protest song by a person of color by Paste Magazine. The single has also been featured on numerous Spotify playlists including the Cyndi Lauper’s Protest Songs playlist.
By using music as a voice of change, the American singer/songwriter speaks up about important issues. Raye Zaragoza is surely making a difference in the music industry, and in the world.
