Stevie Redstone
Stevie Redstone is a singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist from Los Angeles, California.
Redstone started his career in the band Redstone Hall who’s first EP was produced by Nashville producer Dave Cobb. The LA based artist started his solo career in 2015 with the release of his debut single “Good Time Go So Fast” and got to open for major artists such as Dave Grohl, The Who and Robert Plant.
Redstone revealed a brand new single entitled “Now” co-written with musician/producer Lewis Pesacov.
“Now” is a tune that aims to cut through all the noise and negative energy of modern times with a message of LOVE,” says Redstone.

Please introduce yourself. What's your story?
Stevie Redstone at your service, hailing from sunny Los Angeles, CA. I’m a singer, songwriter, piano player, live performer. My sound stands on the shoulders of the classic rock, soul, bluesy/funky giants that came before me. All that said, the journey continues, and I like to think my story is still being written.
What or who introduced you to the musical path?
There isn’t a particular moment I can point to and say “that was it for me,” but I think it has something to do with my grandmother, Georgia. She was a concert pianist in Canada where my mom’s side of the family is from. She sadly passed when I was a little too young to remember her, but she must’ve left a little something in my blood because some of my earliest childhood memories are of singing and wanting to play/perform.
When did you start making music?
I’ve been singing since I was 3 years old and did some musical theater stuff as a kid. Then around middle and high school I caught the rock n roll bug and have been stoking those flames ever since.
You started out in a band called Redstone Hall. How did this experience shape you as an artist?
Many ways, really. For one thing, I learned so much about music and the rock n roll timeline from the other guys in the band in addition to my own exploration during that time. It’s also when I picked up some steam as a writer because we wanted to play live almost right away and needed songs to play. I was also introduced to the grind that is rehearsing a ton, booking and promoting shows. All that super fun stuff :)
What gave you the confidence to be a solo artist?
To be honest, I wasn’t particularly confident about going solo. It was daunting and scary after being in a band for the better part of a decade... It was really more about perseverance. After the band fizzled out, as so many of them do, I chose to immediately dive back in and start a new chapter instead of waiting to put a new group together. I guess I was attracted to the idea of moving at my own pace and “calling the shots,” so to speak. But I’d be lying if I said I don’t sometimes miss the camaraderie, shared responsibility, and collaboration you get with a band. (I don’t, however, miss some of the other stuff we’ll save for another interview)
You released your latest single "Now" in October. What's the story behind this song? Who did you work with?
“Now” is a tune that aims to cut through all the noise and negative energy of modern times with a message of LOVE. I co-wrote it with a wonderful L.A. musician/producer named Lewis Pesacov.
Could you describe us the songwriting / production process behind the song?
Lewis and I began writing this song based on its beat which is actually pretty rare for me. So we looped that breakbeat rhythm as we stumbled around for some chords and vocal melodies. Once we were happy we dug into the lyrics, eventually coming out of the rabbit hole with a demo we were proud of. The version we released was recorded with producer Nic Jodoin at Valentine Recordings in L.A. He assembled a great group of studio musicians and we recorded the basic tracks (piano, drums, bass, guitar, percussion) live as a group before overdubbing horns, live strings, background vocals and other fun goodies. Nic ended up mixing the tune himself. And, voila! A single is born.
What message do you want to convey through your music?
Well I write all kinds of stuff so it sort depends on the song. But I’d say my overall message as an artist is one of positivity, unity and love.
You got to open for artists like Dave Grohl & The Who? Any favorite memory?
Playing my hometown arena, Staples Center, opening for The Who was more than a dream come true. It’s also an EPIC adrenaline rush. I’ll never forget getting back the green room after the show with my band and trying to wrap my head around what just happened. The set was 30 mins but it felt like 30 seconds.
How did you evolve as an artist and as a songwriter over the years?
The live show first comes to mind. There’s nothing like touring to teach you how to perform and work a crowd that’s maybe never seen you play. So I’m proud of how our live show has continued to evolve. As far as writing, I’m always trying to progress and find new inspiration. I’m also digging for the truth and trying to connect with my most honest self with my writing. I think people generally appreciate and stand by artists who represent themselves honestly in their music.
As a person and as an artist, what lessons did you learn since your early experiences in the music industry?
There are too many count or jot down here. But a few perhaps stand out...
1. You can really only rely on yourself to further your career. Even the most well intentioned people in your camp will not always deliver. No one’s gonna hand this to you. You have to go out and get it.
2. Maintaining a positive outlook is crucial.The music industry is a cold-hearted beast. The way to win is to rise above it and enjoy the ride.
3. There are no shortcuts. The quicker you climb, the quicker you will fall.
4. Touring, especially in the beginning, is like Murphy’s Law times a MILLION. So when everything inevitably goes wrong, refer to lesson 2.
What keeps you going?
The love of music. The love of performing. The smiles on people’s faces when you help them get through a shitty day.
2018 is slowly coming to an end, what are the things you are the most proud of?
I’m proud of finishing this album, assembling an awesome infrastructure/team, and releasing the single. On a personal note: I married the most wonderful woman in May this year.
What are your plans for 2019?
We’ll be releasing the rest of the LP, and playing out a ton to support it. Stay tuned!
In your opinion, what would make the world a better place?
People being a little nicer to each other. More positivity, particularly on the internet. People being on their phones less, and more into each other’s real lives. Acceptance. Understanding.
What's your purpose?
To be a force of good in the world. Whether that be by recording/performing music that makes people dance, think, and smile - or by having more Sunday night dinners with great tacos.
