Introduce yourself - where are you from?

Hey there! I’m Kacey! I was born & raised in New York City.

What's your story?

I’ve been singing since I could talk. Really - I used to sing by myself in the back of my preschool classroom. I got my start in musical theater (even though I still can’t dance to save my life), and later learned guitar and played my original songs in coffee shops around NYC. I went on to pursue music at LaGuardia High School in Manhattan, and then at Berklee College of Music in Boston. However, it wasn’t until I moved to Nashville in 2017 that I started creating pop music that felt like me.

What gave you the confidence to become an artist and release your original music?

I tried for a while to NOT do the “artist thing”. I tried writing for other artists, and even working behind the scenes in the music industry. But then I realized that I still wanted to be the one to share the music and tell the stories.

How would you define Kacey V, the artist?

I’d say Kacey V is a real and authentic voice in pop music.

You’ve just released your debut single "Jealous" - what's the story behind this song?

“Jealous” reveals a not-so-cute side of myself, and what it’s like to deal with the overthinking and anxiety that often creeps into my relationships.

Could you describe us the songwriting process? When did you start working on it?

For me, the songwriting process varies from song to song. “Jealous” was one of those songs that happened very quickly. I heard the melody first, and wrote the lyrics next. I immediately knew I wanted this song to be a single, and actually recorded it a day after I wrote it!

You worked with Michael Robinson on this record. How's it like to collaborate with him?

Working with Mike has been amazing. He is a brilliant musician and songwriter, and truly knows what it means to help an artist develop their sound. He’s super supportive and has always brought my songs to life perfectly.

What do you like the most about this single?

What I like most about “Jealous” are the lyrics! I wanted to be honest about everything I was feeling, with the hope that just maybe listeners can relate to my craziness as well.

What is your goal for this new single?

My goal with “Jealous” is to reach new listeners, and connect even more with my current fans, so that they feel like they know me a little better than before.

As an artist, what are the biggest challenges?

Navigating the world of social media is definitely one of the biggest challenges. There’s a pressure to stay engaged and stay growing in a place where thousands of people are doing the same thing as you. The real challenge is to stay in the right headspace and focused on your art, so that you don’t get lost in all the noise.

What does singing make you feel?

Singing makes me feel like myself. It makes me feel free, centered, and understood.

What message do you want to give to anyone who'd like to work in the music industry?

I’d say to always focus on yourself and your art. It’s easy to play the comparison game, but just remember to listen to yourself first and create what makes YOU proud. The rest will fall into place.

Besides music, what are you passionate about?

I’ve always loved writing. There are notebooks and folders in a drawer back home filled with short stories and typed up chapters of unfinished books I tried to write (LOL).

In your opinion, what would make the world a better place?

Love and acceptance go a long way! Spread positivity, and take action when you want to see change.

What biggest life lessons have you learned so far?

I’ve learned to do what makes me happy, and to stop worrying about the future and the things that I can’t control in life or my career. Life is too short!
