KOPPS

KOPPS is an alt-pop band based in Rochester, New York.

Formed by Patricia Patron, Kyle O, & Travis Johansen, the band released their new single “Get Juicy” on November 8th.

“I think even in this "anything goes" age people are still tied to the idea that sexuality = bad. This song is a straight-up rebellion against that...every sound in it production-wise is meant to make you think "sex" as well as every word/vocal styling,” says the band.

Fusing pop, electro and nu-mental, KOPPS describes their sound as Crazy/Sexy/Creepy.

“Get Juicy” is now available worldwide.

Introduce yourselves - what's the band's story? How would you describe KOPPS?

We are  Patricia Patron, Kyle O, & Travis Johansen. We are an "alt-pop" band from the internet and I would describe our sound as crazy/sexy/creepy. We are a real band - meaning we all grew up in New York in the town where Kodak was founded and have known each other forever...Something in the air probably slightly poisoned us, resulting in our music.

"Get Juicy" is your new single. Could you describe to us the songwriting/production process?

Sometimes a song is born from a word or phrase when we write. "Get Juicy" was the phrase we started with and we wrote the song around it. Same thing with our songs "Dumb" and "Thermometer" If we like a phrase enough we will sometimes see what happens with it in session.

When did you start working on this song? Where did you get the inspiration from?

The song was actually written many moons ago. We are very happy it is finally weaved into the interweb. I think Kyle was the one who brought "Get Juicy" to the table originally as a phrase we should play with. I was immediately captured because I knew the song would be overtly sexual. When we wrote it it was probably a little more shocking than it is here in 2019, but it still gets the job done.

What made you want to release "Get Juicy" as a single?

It slaps. Also, I think even in this "anything goes" age people are still tied to the idea that sexuality = bad. This song is a straight-up rebellion against that...every sound in it production-wise is meant to make you think "sex" as well as every word/vocal styling. It might evoke funny sex, sexy sex, rough sex, but everything you hear is DEF sex. Being a little slap-stick about it is meant to point to the fact that shaming it in this day and age is honestly ridiculous. Every human on the planet was made for and by getting busy.

What can you tell us about the artwork?

We could have gone with a very generic female "juicy" innuendo here - but we wanted it to be the opposite of what you'd think, so instead, you have a man penis in tighty whiteys with juice dripping from it. The individual in the photo said his " D*ck itched" a lot after having blue raspberry punch dumped down his pants for the duration so don't try this @ home kids.

What vision do you have for your art?

Visuals and live shows are as important as the music is for us and everything tends to be a lil tongue-in-cheek. We are all super inspired by the 90s when music videos were actually good and had some kind of storyline to them. Although dancing is an integral part of our stage performance and we love it when the audience dances, you'll never see us just standing there dancing for a 3 min video. Even photo shoots tend to lean more creative for us...we just want you to be fully engaged and entertained.

What's the best thing about being in a band? What advice would you give to anyone who'd like to form one?

Playing and creating art is amazing, and it's the most fun when you are doing it for "FUN" only. If you want to be a "successful" band you have to be good songwriters first and have a lot of patience. It takes the average artist years to become well known even on an indie level. A band is an extension of your family, so conflicts will occur. Make sure your live show is also something worth seeing...being tight isn't enough in today's world if you want to stand out.

In your opinion, what would make the world a better place?

Impeachment.
