LX Mason
Sydney-based artist LX Mason unveils new single “Scared to let Go” on December 6th.
Written by Mason and produced by Harrison Wood, the heartfelt single is about saying goodbye to beloved friends.
“Whenever you say goodbye to a beloved friend who’s moving away they always tell you ‘don’t say goodbye, this is a ‘see you later’. But what if you’re not sure you’ll see them again? What if this is the last time you’ll see them but because of blind hope you never actually got the closure a goodbye could bring? This song explores that. And for my sake and the sake of some of my long distanced friends - I hope we see each other again,” explains Mason.
Honest and personal, “Scared to let Go” reveals a different side of Mason’s artistry. With more music on the way, LX Mason is ending the year with a promising single.
“Scared to let Go” is now available worldwide.

Hi LX ! How are you? What have you been up to since our first interview?
So good!! It’s been a journey since our last interview! Went on a bit of a hiatus for health reasons and took a lot of time to reflect and re center myself by connecting to what really matters. I feel like the best, healthiest version of myself these days.
"Scared to Let Go" is your new single. What's the story behind this song?
Where I live and study it’s a very multicultural and transient place. People come and you form these incredible bonds with people from all over the world, and in the blink of an eye 4 years have passed and they’re heading back home. This song is a tribute to them and an expression of my wrestling with bittersweet goodbyes - or as people like to say “it’s not goodbye, it’s ‘see you later”.
When did you start working on it? How was it like to work with Harrison Wood?
I think around August? Harry and I have been mates for a while before we ever worked on anything music related. So working together has been just an extension of that friendship. It was hard to get a serious vocal take cause we were laughing the whole time.
What did you feel when writing this song?
So many mixed emotions. Saying goodbye is never fun, and you really hope you’re gonna see them again but what if you don’t ya know? So I was sad, hopeful, worried, anxious, doubtful, and happy. All at the same time.
What do you like the most about this song?
How honest it is. It’s the most transparent I’ve ever been in a song. And I think you really hear it. Also - the voice memo recording at the end.
What made you want to release "Scared to Let Go" as a single?
Same reason I release anything - to give people a point of connection and words to whatever they’re feeling. And as a tribute to the friends I’ve had to say goodbye too.
What message do you want to convey through this song?
I wanted to convey the message that the bonds I form with people aren’t shallow, so goodbyes aren’t a light thing. I’m so grateful for how people have impacted my life with their beautiful friendships.
What can you tell us about the artwork?
It was such luck! I saw a park and my friend Daniel Brown and I just decided to take pics at it. Then i just hopped on the rope swing and we were like OMG THIS MAKES SO MUCH SENSE NOW. Daniel really ran with it from there.
2019 is coming to an end, what lessons did you learn?
To always be my true self, to love God and love others, and to never compare. The pace I’m at is a healthy one and I’m okay with it.
What did you accomplish this year?
Nearly finished with my bachelors degree, marriage is going great (happy wife happy life!), lost over 16kgs and 3 music releases.
Also - peace. And joy.
What are your goals for 2020?
More music and finish my degree! Love God and people deeper. And strive towards my best self always.
