Jerrica Alyssa unveiled her new single “Ride” on February 7th.

Born and raised in Vancouver, Canada, the pop/r&b/soul artist started her career as a Polynesian touring dancer at a very young age. The conservatory trained pianist released her debut single “Those Cherry Lips” in 2018 . Now based in Nashville, the singer/songwriter is now offering her latest single “Ride”, produced by Alyssa and Joseph Magee (Pitch Perfect, Miley Cyrus, Metallica).

“The song is an infectiously melodic track wrapped in blissed out attraction and unduly anticipation. It is inspired by the anticipation of exploring the undiscovered, whether it’s a new person or the dizzying furor of embarking on an unforgettable adventure,” explains Alyssa.

My name is Jerrica Alyssa. I am a Pop/R&B/Soul Artist from Vancouver BC currently living in Nashville, TN!

What's your story?

Three things you might find interesting about me: I started as a Polynesian touring dancer at a very young age, I’m a conservatory trained pianist and as a singer/songwriter I feel most comfortable straddling the worlds of pop/R&B/soul.

You were born and raised in Vancouver, Canada. Any favorite childhood memories?

As a young child, I remember my home being filled with music. My parents would spin records with classic Pop & R&B artists. My musical memories at home are filled with Michael Jackson, Aretha Franklin, Ohio Players, you name it! Picture a house full of Filipinos singing and dancing.

What or who introduced you to your musical path?

My Grandma was a classical pianist and my father was a singer. Lucky for me they put me in lessons very early. And so it began, exhausting my family with my singing, piano and dance. I can’t remember when music wasn’t the center of my life.

When did you start working in the music industry?

My first work in the entertainment industry was dancing which allowed me to tour internationally when I was a teenager. On those tours I started singing and performing. It was a natural transition for me.

You are about to release your new single "Ride". What's your story behind this song?

This is a new adventure for me, expressing the sexual energy and freedom this song talks about. Feelings of exhilaration and risk.

What did you feel when writing this particular song?

Non-stop emotions. Let me try and describe them. The song is an infectiously melodic track wrapped in blissed out attraction and unduly anticipation. What do you want to accomplish with this new single?

I want people to see a different side of me. Musically this single and the next few songs showcase a broader range of musical styles, but still keeping true to my vibe.

How's it like to work with Joseph Magee? How did you guys meet?

I met Magee when we were both working on music for a film, in Vancouver. As a production partner he has opened up a world of possibilities for me. Whether it is a world class studio, a legendary session player, a simple yet effective mixing technique; I’m allowed to work as an equal with a lot of great people. I’m encouraged to have my hands in everything.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

Everything around me inspires me. I feel I’m a sensitive human being and I try to tell honest stories about life in my songs. Musically, Bruno Mars, Alicia Keys, Earth, Wind & Fire are a few of the artists that inspire me daily.

At what point did you decide to move to Nashville?

I started having great experiences in the studios in Nashville and it inspired me to leave Vancouver and join the musical community in Nashville.

What do you like the most about Nashville? Any local artist you'd like to recommend?

Music and creativity are happening absolutely everywhere. It’s incredible. I don’t know how to answer local, because it seems we’ve all come from somewhere to be here.

You've toured in China, Japan, South Korea and many other countries. What did this experience teach you as a human being?

Every single time I hit the road, I start learning at rapid rate. The travel has never ceased to change my perspective on life, every single trip. It also makes you a very humble person.

What about music appeals to you most?

It’s universal! Everybody get’s their groove machine goin’.

What is the best advice you've ever received?

Get over yourself so you can start expressing your true inner feelings.

What advice would you give to anyone who'd like to pursue a career in the music field?

You have to work on your chops before you can move forward. Just know the work never ends and that’s where the satisfaction is. All great creativity starts from being “at play”.

In your opinion, what would make the world a better place?

Love and honesty.

What biggest lessons have you learnt as a human being and as an artist?

Moving to Nashville and starting this new musical journey has taught me so much more about myself. Creating music makes me so thankful every day. All of this has helped me to be a more compassionate and sensitive person.
