Canadian artist Emily Rowed releases her second album entitled APRIL.

After spending a year travelling, Rowed created her new album APRIL with the help of producer La+ch (Coleman Hell). Fusing elements of electro and pop, the new record explores loss, bliss, love and adventure. “It's a party in the front and deep sorrow in the back. It's about the year I gave almost everything away and fell in love,” says Rowed.

Following up the debut album Electric Heart released in 2017, APRIL tells Rowed’s personal stories through a poetic and honest songwriting.

APRIL is now available worldwide.

Introduce yourself - where are you from?

Hey! I'm Emily Rowed, I'm from Vancouver, Canada.

What's your story?

I grew up on the beach, curious and wild. I started writing poems at a very young age and they turned into songs and haven't stopped.

When did you start writing songs?

I was probably 6 or 7.

At what point did you realize you could sing?

I sang in choirs but I only started singing my own songs at 18.

When did you decide to pursue music as a career?

I just kept writing songs, I don't think there was one moment. it just kept happening.

What did your friends and family think of it?

They are supportive and a lot them are songwriter's too.

Could you describe us your first experience in the music industry?

I was singing in an airport and I was approached by someone from DJ Tiesto's team. They invited me to to record. They flew me to the studio and they used the demo on 'Say Something'.

You released your first project in 2017. How did your sound and artistry evolve since then?

APRIL is more of blend of where I came from and where I've landed - singer-songwriter meets alt pop. The songs are clear stories that co-inside with each other and tell the story of a year.

You've just released your new album APRIL. How did it come about? What's the story behind this album?

APRIL is about a year (a April to April), I gave away most of my things and started living out of a suitcase and fell deep in love with someone and also the world. The album tells all the stories of that year.

Who did you work with on this project?

I worked with La+ch (Coleman Hell), we wrote and recorded the project in 21 days in his home studio in Toronto.

Could you describe us the songwriting/production for APRIL?

Cinematic, dreamy, personal, the songs are like journal entries.

What are the different topics you are talking about on this album?

There is loss, bliss, love, adventure. I gave away all my things and started living out of suitcase. It's been 2 years now.

What was your favorite part about making this album? And what was the hardest part?

Sitting in the room with La+ch writing. The first time I heard it back was a big moment, we listened in the dark. We had nothing 3 weeks prior and we sat there listening to new album. The hardest part was waiting for it to come out.

"Watercolors" is the latest single of this project. What did you feel when writing this particular song?

Dreamy, melty, sweet, pastel love.

What is your goal for this new album?

If I can soothe someone, inspire someone, help someone take a risk, make someone present for a moment, that's it for me.

How does it feel like to release a second album?

I am very excited, a little nervous, I really let my life hang out on this one.

What does it mean for you to be an artist?

To tell the truth as you know it and help people feel more deeply.

In your opinion, what would make the world a better place?

Open-mindedness.

What biggest lessons have you learnt as a human being and as an artist?

Choose love over fear, tell the truth, instincts and callings are always right.
