Kate Gillespie unveils new single "New York"
Following up her single “Not Having Fun”, country singer/songwriter Kate Gillespie is back with a new single called “New York”.
Written by Gillespie and produced by Collin Pastore, the country/folk single explores Gillespie’s vulnerability through a very personal story.
“Some time ago I started seeing someone and after falling deep into the relationship, I found out that they had a girlfriend... like, a girlfriend that wasn't me. But at that point I felt that I was too invested to think rationally and leave,” explains Gillespie.
With this new single, the Nashville-based artist is highlighting her talent as a storyteller and as an artist.
“New York” is now available on major streaming platforms.

Hi Kate ! How are you ? What have you been up to since our first interview?
Hey hey! I've been well thanks! I've spent the past year playing the songs from my last EP and single release all over Nashville and beyond, as well as, of course, recording my new single!
How does it feel like to release new music again ?
I'm so happy to be releasing new music. I feel progressively more excited with each new release because as my sound evolves I'm becoming more experienced in the recording process. I feel like my producer and I really nailed the energetic, yet painful sound I was trying to capture in "New York".
What’s the story behind your new single “New York”?
Well, some time ago I started seeing someone and after falling deep into the relationship, I found out that they had a girlfriend... like, a girlfriend that wasn't me. But at that point I felt that I was too invested to think rationally and leave. So "New York" deals with my inner conflicts and feelings of vulnerability and guilt that I juggled during that time.
When did you start working on this song? Could you describe us the songwriting process?
I started working on the song about a year ago, when I was in the thick of the relationship. It was the kind of night where I started writing, didn't stop for a couple hours, and quickly ended up with a song that I really love.
How’s it like to collaborate with Collin Pastore?
Collin is like a wizard in the studio. We actually tracked every instrument in one day. He is extremely efficient and contributed so many creative ideas in terms of the arrangement.
What can you tell us about the artwork? Who did you work with?
For this album artwork, I wanted to maintain my soft pink theme but add a couple pops of colour to shake the aesthetic up a bit. My friend in Nashville, Linda Parrott took the photo and Virginia Walcott did the design and animation.
What do you like the most about this particular song?
I like that the song carries a heavy subject matter while being upbeat. It's refreshing to release something with a nice backbeat since most of the music I write ends up being more ballad-like.
What message do you want to deliver to the readers of this blog?
While this song is about a pretty unique scenario, I hope that the vulnerability within the storytelling shines through to the listeners. Thank you everyone for your support so far. It is such a privilege to be able to write and release meaningful music to the public.
