EVVY

After taking a few years to refocus on herself, New-York-based artist EVVY is back with the explosive new single “OOMS” (Out Of My System).

Co-written with Brandon Colbein (ZAYN, Liam Payne, Hayley Kiyoko) and produced by Chris Lyon, the pop-electro single was writing during a time where the artist was confronted with anxiety and depression. The single shows her coming out of the past few years stronger than ever and expelling her inner demons out of her system.

With this new single, the singer/songwriter is conveying an important message with her audience.

“Don’t beat yourself up over everything and with time you can and you will overcome your any battles you’re facing,” says EVVY.

“OOMS” is now available on major streaming platforms.

Introduce yourself - where are you from?

I am from New York, born and raised… and still living here!

What's your story?

I started singing at a very young age. Once my sister encouraged me to perform at my elementary school talent show I never looked back. I explored all the musical outlets from vocal performance to musical theatre. After college, I found myself as an artist through the world of songwriting, and discovered my sound and released my project/self titled “EVVY” EP.

Are you coming from a musical family?

Not really, however my grandfather who passed away before I was born used to sing and play guitar in his little hometown in Portugal. So I like to think that I got that trait from him.

Do you remember the first record you ever bought?

It was *NSYNC’s No Strings Attached. I’m a 90s kid for sure!

When did you start singing professionally?

Even though I started singing at a very young age, I only started singing professionally right before I released my first EP.

Do you remember a specific time in your life where music made a huge difference?

Music has had such a huge impact in my life, whether it be writing my own music in order to express myself or listening to my favorite artists. Three years ago, Coldplay really got me through some hard times and then when I saw them in concert at Met Life Stadium, it literally carried me through an array of emotions, I was crying one moment to “Fix You” and then dancing away two songs later. That in itself is such a beautiful thing that music can do to a person.

Who was the first person to ever believe in you?

My parents & my sister.

How did your sound and artistry evolve since your first self-titled project? What did you learn since then?

My artistry has evolved with my experiences, I’ve learned so much about myself and working with many different talented songwriters and producers. I’ve learned and still learning to trust myself more in my artistic decisions and not let others dictate the process which can become very hard in an industry full of opinions. I’m still evolving, and will forever evolve with each passing day, experience and interaction.

"OOMS" is your new single. How does it feel like to release new music again?

It’s very exciting, it’s been so long and I’m just happy to be able to share a piece of work that I am proud of.

What's the story behind "OOMS"?

“OOMS” (Out of My System) was written during a time where I confronted the anxiety and depression that I had let takeover my life. This song is about overcoming those inner demons and transforming one’s life into something beautiful.

When did you start writing this particular song? Who did you work with?

I wrote “OOMS” almost 3 years ago with Chris Lyon & Brandon Colbein.

What did you feel when writing this song?

At first I was nervous because I was opening up to people I hardly knew, but then I realized I wasn’t alone in how I was feeling.

What made you want to release this particular song as a single?

I wanted to release this particular song not only because I love it, but I thought it gave a bit of insight as to what I have been dealing with emotionally since my last release.

What message do you want to convey through this song?

Don’t beat yourself up over everything and with time you can and you will overcome any battles you’re facing.

What message do you want to give to anyone suffering from mental illness?

That even when times get really hard, know that you’re not alone. Don’t be afraid to reach out to someone to talk, whether it be a professional or someone close you trust. Find the things you love, create healthy habits for yourself and try to surround yourself with positive energy.

As an artist, what do you want to accomplish?

I have a pretty long list of things I’d like to accomplish but I’d love to go on tour soon, performing and traveling are two of my favorite things. Not to mention I love connecting with my fans.

What are the things you are the most proud of?

When fans connect to my music and lyrics, it’s really humbling when people connect to or make memories to something you’ve created.

In your opinion, what would make the world a better place?

Equality and if we all looked out for one another.

What biggest life lessons have you learned so far?

Patience.
