Bre Kennedy reveals debut EP "Jealous of Birds"

Bre Kennedy unveils her debut EP Jealous of Birds.

Produced by Kyle Dreaden, Jealous of Birds is a collection of personal records written through growing pains and dealing with the ups and downs of life.

“Jealous Of Birds” is an EP made up of 5 songs. 5 songs that I've been working on and playing out for over a year of constant stress, and wonder and over coming fear of...(insert any possible feeling of not exceeding expectation as a 20 something) and finding myself. I wanted to call it “Jealous Of Birds”, because it would be so easy to just fly away from the hard parts... but it's also what makes ME and helps define who I am as human,” explains Kennedy.

Co-written with her friends Hadley Kennary, Matt Koziol, David Borné, Jessica Sharman and Kyle Dreaden, the Nashville-based artist offers a promising and heartfelt debut EP showcasing Kennedy’s personal stories.

The 5 track EP features the previous singles “Slippin”, “Strings Attached” and the latest single “One Way” (with David Borné).

Bre Kennedy will be having her EP Release Show at the Mercy Lounge in Nashville, on August 6th.

Jealous of Birds is now available worldwide.

______

You are about to release your debut EP Jealous of Birds. How does it feel like?

YES *dancing in place* It feels like a weight has been lifted. I've wanted to release a lot of these songs for a while and it's been the most rewarding experience putting this music out!

What are the different topics you are talking about on this project?

GROWING PAINS. Every song on this EP was written through growing up and into myself. I like to have a crooked smile when it comes to the ups and downs of my life. Life is heavy and complex and messy and can be dark, but it always figures itself out and I choose every day to just kind of laugh at myself in the most endearing way... I'm still figuring it all out, but I'd rather have a little grace and a sense of humor about it all.

Who helped you create this EP?

My incredible community here in Nashville. Kyle Dreaden produced, engineered and mixed this EP and helped write "Slippin" along side Hadley Kennary (one of my favorite songwriters of all time and dear friend). I wrote "Strings Attached" and "Jealous Of Birds" with my dear friend and amazing artist Matt Koziol, "One Way" with David Borné, and the last song and new addition to the EP "Where I'm From" with my new friend Jessica Sharman. My INCREDIBLE band mates Jake Finch played drums and piano, Collin Pastore on Pedal Steel and addition arrangements and Andrew Brown on bass. All of these people helped me create the sound I wanted and contributed their time and incredible taste. Jason Lee Denton designed all the artwork and logos. Very thankful for them.

What was the hardest part about making this EP? And what was the best part?

Hardest Part: Keeping my spirits up as an independent artist and sticking to deadlines. It took a village.

Best Part: Letting to songs go out in the world, learning from each release, and creating with my friends.

"One Way" is your latest single. What's the story behind this song?

I wrote “One Way” with one of my favorite songwriters in town, David Borne, one day in his backyard. It was our first time writing and we both connected with the idea of doing music forever. Like, we'd rather not look back and question our choices choosing this career and all the craziness that comes with it... life is too short for that.

Could you describe us the songwriting/production for this particular song?

Songwriting was just two guitars and a voice note. I later brought it to my band and they helped bring it to life. And we played it live in studio and Kyle Dreaden produced it out.

How was it like to collaborate with David Borné?

He's a dream. One of the most down to earth human beings out there. Very thankful there's a Borne in the world.

What did you feel when writing the song "Jealous of Birds"?

Complete. I had the title for months... I even sang down a bunch of crappy voice memo ideas for months but nothing had clicked yet. The song was ready to be written. I wrote it in a hotel room before a show on a rainy day in Evansville Indiana when I was feeling so down and in a funk.... and the song just kind of poured out. And I knew that was going to be the name of my EP. It wrapped them up perfectly.

What message do you want to convey through this first EP?

All sides of me. I come from a pop writing back round and I also want to sing the songs that I write on my acoustic alone in my room. I want people to hear my songwriting and get to know my sarcastic yet optimistic POV as growing artist.

What are the things you are the most proud of?

I'm proud of this EP, I'm proud of the songs I've gotten to write with other artists. And I can't wait to see what other songs come this year. xx
