LA-based artist Ry unveils new single titled ‘Hard Seasons’.

Produced by 80AM, the pop single is about facing difficulties in life through music and songwriting.

“I really like “Hard Seasons" because it fits into so many aspects of my life, but when I initially wrote it, it was about music and how writing allows me to let loose of those bottled up emotions,” says Ry.

The singer/songwriter released his debut single ‘Back Then’ in May 2019 and has garnered over 51k streams on Spotify.

With more releases on the way, Ry is continuing to reveal personal stories through uplifting pop records.

‘Hard Seasons’ is now available worldwide.

Introduce yourself - where are you from?

I moved around a bit as a kid; I lived in parts of Marin County then went to high school in Ojai, a small town outside of Ventura, and that’s where I found music. I’ve been to 10 schools but currently, go to a university in LA.

What's your story?

Like I said, I moved around a lot so I was always “The New Kid” at school. At first, it was hard but after a while, I started to like it; it forces you to grow up faster, and I began to learn who I was much faster, I think.

How would you define Ry, the artist?

I would say Ry is a part of Riley but the more emotional side. Music is a way for me to get out how I feel whether that be stress, sadness, anger, happiness, it all comes out when I write and play.

"Hard Seasons" is your new single. Could you describe to us the songwriting/recording process? Who produced it?

The chorus was made in the midst of writing another song, but it just came to us.

What made you want to release "Hard Seasons" as a single?

I wanted to release “Hard Seasons" as a single because I really just want the world to hear it. The work and effort that went into the song I admire and it can’t just be sitting up on a shelf waiting to be put out.

Releasing new music can be a "scary" thing, what gives you the confidence to share your music with the world?

Honestly, this is a struggle for me. It is so personal, yet I listen to so many other artists and realize that they help me get through things when I’m feeling some type of way, so why not share my stories to the world too?

Why do you make music?

Simply because I love it; I can play the piano or guitar just messing around for hours, and it feels like 20 minutes.

As an artist, what biggest struggles do you have to overcome?

For me, music is something so personal; sometimes it is hard for me to share because it brings about a side of me that really only comes up when I write or when I sing.

What keeps you going?

Coffee… and the idea of sitting around doing nothing kills me, and the idea of sitting in an office for 40 years scares me, so why not spend the one life I know I have in pursuit of something I love?

What’s your favorite thing about making art?

How personal it is, yet how many people can relate to it.

Who’s helping you shape your artistry and career?

80AM,- my producer/friend that I met last year. It’s awesome having someone believe in you; it gives me the confidence and clarity to keep on pushing.

Do you remember a specific moment in your life where music made a huge impact?

When my uncle died, who was my dad’s best friend, my mom’s brother, arguably the reason I’m here, passed away. We used to play the drums, guitar or piano whenever we could, and it would always bond us.

Besides music, what are you passionate about?

I love to surf and ski with friends whenever I can. Also, I've been playing basketball with my dad since I was three, so it was a huge part of my life until college.

What's the best advice you've ever received?

You don’t get what you don’t ask for. My stepdad said this to me years ago, and I still keep it close to my heart to this day. You can’t expect something to happen if you don’t put the intention/effort out there.

As a human being, what do you want to accomplish?

I want to touch as many people’s lives as possible in a positive way, and the method of doing so through music than even better.

What lessons did you learn in 2019?

2019 taught me patience. Sometimes life doesn’t go the way as you want or expect at that moment, but over time things do get better.

What are your goals for 2020?

Stay healthy, make more music and keep working towards the goal.

In your opinion, what would make the world a better place?

That’s a tough question obviously but simply, for everyone to have a better understanding of one another and to be able to accept people for who they are rather than criticize them for who they aren’t.
