"Lioness", an open letter by Alice D
September 2019. I experienced my first bit of online trolling. Ignoring my own advice, I stupidly replied. Backwards & forwards for a week until I realised this person really wasn’t worth it. Taking pen to paper, my anger & frustration poured out of me, which resulted in me writing Karma. A simple, melodic track that also comes with a warning.
Come October, I was all fired up and ready to get back into the studio with Oscar, my longtime friend and collaborator. We wrote Forever Mine in 4 hours & I knew it was special. Not only in it’s message, but also in the moody rumbling music that I found contrasted beautifully with the upbeat melody.
It was then that I knew I wanted to start working towards a second EP. I began working with artist/producer Jimmy Robinson, aka “Big Pretty” on the 4 other tracks. Each song is a personal experience & evokes a different emotion. You may cry to You Were Never Really Here then get up and dance to Brand New or even see yourself in All For You.
I want people to feel good when they listen to my music. To know that they can overcome whatever life throws at them, believe in their own strength & be reassured that they are not alone in their feelings.
Lioness is a mature record that has seen me fully trust my musical ability & writing skills.
