"Good News" by Mac Miller

Today is Mac’s birthday so I thought I’d write a little something about him.

Where to begin…. So much to say and so many feelings.

It still hurts. Writing about him makes me sad. Listening to him still makes me sad from time to time. But I am still inspired by his art every single day. What saddens me the most is that I really started listening to Mac Miller after I watched his NPR performance. It was after the release of his record Swimming (AMAZING record btw). I wish I listened to him from the very start, but the good part is that music will always be here. His music is timeless.

I took the time to study his music since then and there is only one word I can find to describe him: genius. Mac Miller was a genius. An incredible musician and overall, a true Artist with real stories. He will continue to inspire many people, and his art will forever live on. And that is the legacy he left. A legacy we should all cherish and remember.

I picked "Good News" today but I could have picked "2009" or "What's The Use?" or "Woods", or even "Dang!" or so many others. But since Circles got released a year ago (jan 17th to be precise), picking a song from Circles made sense. "Good News" felt like a good choice to me because I can still relate to it. It quickly became one of my favorite songs. His vocals really caught my attention on this one. Hearing him sing is always so fucking beautiful. The other thing that caught my attention is the topic behind this song. Mental health is something very important to me and hearing a song that personal always remind me that it is absolutely okay to talk about your feelings. There was a time I would listen to this one on repeat because I was so tired of being tired. That line hit me so hard, I made a mug with the Circles artwork and with that line in the back. I always go back to this song whenever I feel down and tired and alone. It’s always good to know you are never alone.

Mac Miller wasn’t afraid to write about his feelings and his struggles. He’s one of these rare artists that made you really listen to what he had to say. That’s powerful. He was also one of these artists who would make you dance, smile and laugh and forget about our own struggles for a moment. There are so many other things to say. But at this point, words aren’t just enough. His art was/is real and honest, and that’s one of the reasons why his music will never be forgotten.

Legends never die, that’s what they say :) Let’s celebrate his music today, and every day.

Happy birthday, Mac Miller.

Thank you for what you did for music.

Thank you for always being you.
