Kensington Moore
Los Angeles-based artist Kensington Moore releases new single “Karma”.
The new single is about the satisfaction of watching karma do her thing.
“Karma” literally just came out of nowhere. I laid the chords down in Logic and started recording random melodies and lyric ideas. And then it somehow turned into what it is today,” explains Moore.
Hailing from Nashville, Tennessee, the storyteller is painting honest records by using her pop, jazz and r&b influences.
“Karma” is now available worldwide.

Introduce yourself. What's your story?
Yo I’m Kensington - you can call me Kensi. I’m a 22 year old southern belle from Nashville, Tennessee who writes pop music and lives in the heart of Hollywood. I started singing when I was 2 years old and never stopped. I was classically trained in piano from an early age and started playing guitar when I was 10. Around the same time is when I started writing songs. Over the years I started to realize how powerful music really is. It’s moving, healing, and is truly a universal language. Growing up in Nashville was very inspiring as a young songwriter who desired to one day be like the world renowned writers, producers, and artists who shared the same zip code as me. I feel very lucky to have had such amazing talent surrounding me to constantly look up to and learn from + the insane support of my parents. After my sophomore year in high school at age 16 I was on The Voice, which is what initially brought me out to LA. Through that experience I was able to connect with some amazing writers, producers, and new friends. Here we are 6 years later and so much has changed, yet so much has remained the same. I fall more in love with music every single day and feel eternally grateful that I get to do what I love every single day.
Could you describe us your childhood a little bit?
Imagine a little girl on a softball team sitting on the bench completely zoned out. It’s the most intense part of the game, everyone’s focused and is not thinking about anything but winning that game in the moment. And then there’s me - the little girl sitting on the bench looking off in the distance humming and annoyed by all the noise around me as I’m trying to write a song in my head. I’m yelling out the dugout to my parents asking when we can leave so I can go home and practice guitar. I’ve been in the dugout on the bench the whole time anyway because I am by far the worst player on the team and have zero sport capabilities to offer. That sums up my entire childhood LOL ask my parents.
If you could say something to your younger self, what would you say?
Boys will be boys. They’ll break your heart and it will hurt like hell. BUT. It makes for some great song material lol go write a hit sis.
How would you describe yourself today?
I’m extremely chill and laid back. I love Jesus, my family, friends, music, pizza, and sleep. My life pretty much revolves around those things. You’re way more likely to find me on a Friday night in my bedroom by myself playing guitar working on a song vs out in the club somewhere. I’m totally a loser grandma trapped in a 22 year olds body and I’m like 100% ok with it.
When did you start feeling connected to art and music?
Truly as long as I can remember. Art has always been a way for me to express my heart with no guidelines or limitations.
What gave you the confidence to be an artist and release your original music?
The realization that my music could maybe one day impact someone’s life as much as certain artists’ have impacted mine + the outpouring of support from my friends and family, specifically my parents and little brother.
Who's helping you build your artistry?
The lovely souls listening to my music + my team. Having the support and creative direction from them is really helpful.
How would you define Kensington Moore, the artist?
Authentic. At the end of the day that’s all I strive to be. I want “Kensington Moore the artist” to be the same as “Kensington Moore the friend” or whatever it may be.
"Karma" is your new single - what's the story behind this song?
I wish I had some deep revenge rooted in this song’s story, but I don’t. I will say though, this song becomes more relatable for me on the daily. “Karma” literally just came out of nowhere. I laid the chords down in Logic and started recording random melodies and lyric ideas. And then it somehow turned into what it is today. I recorded it as I wrote it - and the demo vocals from that very day are what ended up being used on the final version!
What do you like the most about this song?
I really like the haunting harmonies. I also like how the song only says “Karma” twice - the first and last line.
What can you tell us about the artwork?
My manager Nik had the idea of adding dual coloring for a ying/yang type vibe and absolutely nailed it. The original photo was taken by my friend Sheri Angeles. I always love getting to work and be creative with my friends!
What appeals you the most about songwriting?
It’s therapy to me! When I’m writing a song I can say literally anything and everything that’s on my heart and mind. Songwriting is good for the soul.
What do you want to accomplish as a human being?
I want to write songs that change the world, be a good friend, and to one day be a good mom and wife.
In your opinion, what would make the world a better place?
The world would be a better place if cookie dough didn’t have raw eggs. The no-egg cookie dough just doesn’t taste the same.
2019 is slowly coming to an end, what lessons did you learn this year?
Slow is smooth, smooth is fast. (Read it again)
Make time for the people you love. Invest in friendships and family.
Distance doesn’t matter when the effort is equal.
Buy your own damn flowers. (guys suck)
What are your goals for 2020?
I plan to release an EP and play more shows in 2020! So excited to share more new music.
