Devin Kennedy
Following his single “Feel The Same” released in November, Los Angeles singer/songwriter/producer Devin Kennedy is back with a new single entitled “Every Night // Every Morning”.
Produced by Devin Kennedy and William Ventres, the new single delivers an anthemic pop record featuring vocals from Los Angeles-based artist Dominique. “Every Night // Every Morning” describes the ups and downs of a long distance relationship.
“From the very first session we knew we wanted to put this out as a duet. The more we worked on the song, the more we loved it. For me, music is all about your message. What do you want to say, and how do you want to say it. The concept of a hit or miss long distance relationship is relatable and real to many people,” explains Kennedy.
Along with his solo project, the songwriter/producer is currently working for other artists such as The Habits, James Maslow and Trevor Douglas.
“Every Night // Every Morning” is now available worldwide.
Hi! How are you? What have you been up to since our first interview?
Hello! I’m doing great, thanks for asking. I’ve been in the studio writing lots of new music since we last spoke. Really excited to start releasing some of it.
You're about to release your new single "Every Night // Every Morning". What's the story behind this song?
This song highlights the ups and downs of a long distance relationship, which is something so many people go through in some capacity. Whether it’s romantic, a family member, friend..etc. We all have people we miss and want to see more. While Dominique and I wrote this song we allowed ourselves to be very real, and speak about exactly what was on our minds, it’s very special to both of us.
Could you describe us the songwriting/production process? When did you start working on it?
The song came together very quick. We wrote it together in one day, then I took a bit to finish off the production. The song is very organic, lot’s of guitar work, lot’s of claps and reverb. We wanted it to be emotional and anthemic and that’s exactly what it is.
At what point did you realize you needed a female vocalist for this project? When did you know Dominique was the right fit for this song?
Dominique and I wrote the song together, so it’s perfectly crafted for her voice and she sounds amazing on it. In fact, we even re-recorded both of our vocals a few times to make sure we nailed the emotion and the performance. She really brings a special sound to the record.
How's it like to work with Dominique? How did you guys meet?
Dominique and I originally met while working with a good friend of ours James Maslow. We started writing together over the summer of 2017. We wrote this song in our first session ever and knew right away that it was very special. She’s the best.
What made you want to release "Every Night // Every Morning" as a single?
It’s a song that we’ve been sitting on for months, waiting for the right timing. From the very first session we knew we wanted to put this out as a duet. The more we worked on the song, the more we loved it. For me, music is all about your message. What do you want to say, and how do you want to say it. The concept of a hit or miss long distance relationship is relatable and real to many people. If this song can help someone better understand the ups and downs that that kind of relationship entails, then we’ve done our part.
As a producer, what equipments and softwares do you usually use?
I’m very lucky and have an amazing home studio in Los Angeles. I pretty much exclusively use Pro Tools and Universal Audio gear. We used a Kemper Profiling amp to get some amazing guitar tones on this song, in addition to some catchy piano parts that I played on my Nord Keyboard.
What advices would you give to new producers?
Never stop collaborating, and make sure that every session counts. Chase the feeling, write and produce songs that make you feel something. That’s where the real magic happens.

What are your goals for 2019?
In 2019 the goal is to get out on tour and meet all these amazing fans that have been streaming the music. I’d also like to release a longer project, and continue writing and producing for other artists.
What message do you want to deliver to the readers of this blog?
Thank you for supporting new music. Thank you for giving up-and-coming artists a chance to use their voice and become a soundtrack to peoples lives. That’s what it’s all about.
