Bre Kennedy
Singer/songwriter Bre Kennedy revealed her latest single “Slippin” on March 8th.
Written by Bre Kennedy, Hadley Kennary and produced by Kyle Dreaden, “Slippin” reflects on the time flying by after turning another year older.
“I just couldn't believe how fast time was flying by me each year, and I went into the studio with no real direction on what kind of song to write, but I had this longing for the time that had passed,” says Kennedy.
Combining outstanding pop melodies with a big production, Kennedy designed the perfect smash pop record you want to listen on repeat. Along with the single, the singer/songwriter unveiled the music video directed by Jason Lee Denton.
The songwriter co-wrote songs for various artists such as Scottish artist Nina Nesbitt, California pop trio Echosmith and UK house act DASCO.
With this new single, Bre Kennedy is, without a doubt, becoming one of the most promising up and coming pop artists in the music industry. The Nashville-based artist will be revealing her new EP “Jealous of Birds” later this year.
“Slippin” is now available worldwide.

Introduce yourself - where are you from?
Hi. I'm Bre :) I'm from Orange County, California. I write and perform music and love what I do :)
What's your story?
Long story short, I was born in SLC, UT, but grew up in Orange County by the water! I moved to Los Angeles out of high school and began writing professionally and now call Nashville home. I drove to Nashville from CA to experience the drive and also to see if Nashville was the place for me, and it totally is... for now. I found my voice here and am now working on my music as well as writing with other artists.
Could you tell us about your childhood? What were you passionate about?
Childhood was spent with a lot of music around me. My dad played blues guitar and made his own music as I grew up and introduced me to bands like Fleetwood, Heart, Pat Benetar, etc. I also loved Spongebob... a lot. I loved volleyball and iceskating, but my organic love for writing on my acoustic guitar outweighed it all.
Do you remember your first musical memories?
I remember the first time my dad played Aretha Franklin and I cried... I was too young to know what she was talking about but I was like WHOA that's powerful.
Growing up, did you have a song or an album that made a huge difference in your life?
"Landslide" was the first song I sang at a talent show. I just instantly connected with that song and still today this day feel the importance of it every day in my own life. Such a beautifully written song by a beautiful being.
When did you start writing songs?
I wrote my first song when I was 14...it was called “Memories”... and I knew after that one I wanted to keep making songs. I started writing songs professionally around 18 years old!
Could you tell us about your first experiences in the music industry? What did you learn since then?
I was introduced to the music industry at a very young age and it's made me want to write my own story and find my own sound. I've learned to follow my intuition over opinion.. and I've learned to work through even the least creative days... creativity will find you when you show up.
When did you decide to pursue music as a career? What did your friends and family think of it?
I decided to pursue music in high school. My family is musical and was very supportive.
You've just released your new single "Slippin". What's the story behind this song?
Yes! I wrote "Slippin" after I turned another year older. I just couldn't believe how fast time was flying by me each year, and I went into the studio with no real direction on what kind of song to write, but I had this longing for the time that had passed. I wrote it with my dear friend Hadley Kennary and producer Kyle Dreaden about my quarter life crisis :) It was just therapy for us that day, and I fell in love with the song instantly because it made me smile even through a frustrating time.
What did you feel when writing this song?
The song made me dance...and cry at the same time... I liked that.
What made you want to release "Slippin" as a single?
I wanted to release it first to set the tone for where I'm at as a young woman... and it put a smile on my face when I wrote it so I figured there had to be something to it.
What appeals you the most about songwriting?
So many reasons I love songwriting, but I think what appeals me the most is that it is completely unique to everyone’s individual story.
Any favorite songwriters?
Oh yeah, Patty Griffin, Brandi Carlile, Jackson Browne, Carol King, Joni Mitchell, Natalie Hemby.
What advices would you give to young songwriters?
It's a life long craft... it only gets better... keep writing...
In your opinion, what makes a good song?
Great melody, a point of view, and it just has to do something to you when it comes on in the car.
Who's helping you build your artistry and your sound?
My community and the people who inspire me to be the best artist I can be and my daily life, it takes living through some things to get to the song.
In your opinion, what would make the world a better place?
Grace.
What biggest lessons have you learnt as a human being and as an artist?
As a human being: Be a good person to those around you, you never know what someone else is going through...time is a healer, learn... always be willing to learn... and follow my gut.
As an artist, much the same.
