Following his single “Antisocial Socialities” (Ft. Kyan Palmer, Yuri Joness), artist/producer nicopop. is now unveiling his new single entitled “Lover Lover”. The new single features vocals from Tyler Mann with whom he worked with on “Start Again”, released last year. Together, the duo have also worked on songs for Evalyn, Naomi Wild, and Kyan Palmer, just to name a few.
“Lover Lover” is really a testament to our working relationship. A couple years back we got together to write a track for a pretty prominent dance DJ, but they ended up passing on the song which turned out to be a blessing in disguise. There was something about “Lover Lover” that really resonated with us and our experience... the message of this song is really about perseverance and in a way our process of making it is a great example of that. If somethings worth doing, it's worth doing right,” explains nicopop.

Introduce yourself - where are you from?
I’m from a little place called New York.
What's your story?
Just a simple boy trying to mesmerize everyone with my computer.
Growing up, what were your favorite records to listen to? Do you remember the first record you ever bought?
I’m not ashamed to say that “Now 1” was the first record I ever bought, and it still shapes me to this day. I was raised on a healthy dose of Max Martin, Daft Punk and Moby.
What or who introduced you to the musical path?
My mom, she has great taste in music.
When did you start making beats? What was the biggest challenge when you first started?
I was 11. The biggest challenge was that I had no idea how to start doing it professionally.
What gave you the confidence to become an artist and release your original music?
Blind narcissism.
You just released your new single “Lover Lover". What's the story behind this song?
Me and the devil inside Tyler Mann made this song for a prominent DJ 4 years ago and it was the first song we ever wrote together. It sounded completely different back then, and even though the artist passed on it we couldn’t let it die. I think most people would be surprised at the number of songs we as artist/producers/writers make that never see the light of day.
Could you describe us the production process behind this song?
Being that song was originally made for someone else, it was quite a process getting it from the original to a version we felt confident releasing ourselves. From start to finish this song really got a full facelift including new lyrics, BPM, drum patterns, vocals, drops, etc. There are 8 different versions of this song, 7 of which will only ever be heard by Tyler and I.
What made you want to collaborate with Tyler Mann?
He had a gun.
How do you choose your collaborations? What are the things you are looking for when working with artists?
I love to work with someone who has a point of view and brings something new to the table.
What makes a good collaboration?
I’ll let you know when I find out.
As a producer, what equipments and softwares do you usually use?
I mainly use Ableton 10, the fab filter plugins, valhalla verbs, prophet 10, and my new favorite synth is the TAL U-NO-LX. Everything is in the box but I’d love to start dabbling in analog.
What do you like the most about making music?
It’s always been my passion and I love that I’m able to pursue it everyday.
In your opinion, what makes a good production? And what makes a good song?
The answer is simple and its the same for both: something that makes you feel something.

Max Martin, Cirkut, Kevin Parker.
What advices would you give to young producers?
Make as many songs as you can. Every song I make I get better and as long as I am constantly making music I’m growing as an artist.
Who's helping you create your visuals? How would you describe your art in general?
My brother and his business partner Jackson at Darkroom helped me come up with the initial branding and idea behind the nicopop aesthetic. I’ve slowly been learning after effects so I can start making visuals on my own.
In your opinion, what would make the world a better place?
Less Tinder and more eye-contact.
What biggest lessons have you learnt as an artist and as a human being?
More often than not the truth is inconsequential and perception is reality for most people.
