Canadian singer/songwriter Lo Lo revealed her new single “Sweater Collection” on March 8th.
With the help of DCF and Derek Hoffman, the singer/songwriter designed a brilliant pop record.
“I was cleaning up my closet and realized I had some sweaters that weren’t exactly mine…I either (politely) stole them or was given them by guys who I had dated. I started laughing when I realized the little collection I had started, and I had a feeling that I wasn’t the only person who had one. So I wanted to make a song about it, because I felt like there wasn’t already one out there,” explains Lo Lo.
The Toronto-based artist offers a genuine and colorful sound filled with catchy melodies and stories we can all relate to.
“Sweater Collection” is now available on all major streaming platforms.

Introduce yourself - where are you from?
Hi! I’m Lo Lo and I’m from Toronto, Canada.
What's your story?
I went through a heartbreak or two, which led me to releasing a couple of songs about just that. It was weird at first to let the world in on thoughts that would originally live in a diary for my eyes only, but I learned to take what I was feeling and let it out through song form. People ended up digging it, so I decided to make an EP! Now I’m hoping that people who are discovering me can listen to my songs as a way of helping them cope with that same kind of heartbreak.
Do you remember your first musical memories?
I got cast as a munchkin or some sort of helper in my school play, the Wizard of Oz, when I was 7 or 8…I had a singing solo of a few lines in “The Merry Old Land of Oz”, but I could barely sing it properly because I couldn’t pronounce my R’s yet.
When did you realize music had a special place in your life?
From as long as I can remember, I always loved singing and putting on performances for whoever would watch. It was always something that I loved doing, but it was after high school when I realized it was something that I actually wanted to pursue.
When did you know you could sing?
I was always in my school plays, but I never got the lead role. At summer camp when I was 12 I auditioned for “Annie”, thinking I probably wasn’t going to even get in. But then I got the lead of Annie and I remember thinking…Wait, do I have a good voice? That was the first time I realized I must actually be able to sing.
When did you start writing songs? Do you remember the first song you've ever written? What was it about?
I started writing songs when I was 14 or 15. Yes I do remember…. I was in grade 9 and it was about when I found out this boy I had a crush on in grade 12 had a girlfriend. It was called “it’s hard to dream with a broken heart” HAHA and it was awful.
When did you decide to pursue music as a career? What did your friends and family think of it?
About half way through University is when I really decided to pursue music. I took a year off to focus on music. My friends and family were supportive for the most part. You know, there’s always going to be some people with opinions who have things to say *eye roll*…but I wanted it so bad that I didn’t really care for those who didn’t have anything nice to say.
You recently released your new single "Sweater Collection". What's the story behind this song?

So I wanted to make a song about it, because I felt like there wasn’t already one out there. I looked up “Sweater Collection” on Spotify and saw that there was not one song out there with that title…So I was like, OKAY here we go!
When did you start working on this song? Who did you work with?
I started working on this song this past summer. I worked with two guys, who I had met for the first time that day, DCF (another epic artist you must check out) & Derek Hoffman (producer, also epic).
What made you want to release this particular song as a single?
I just thought that other people would be able to relate. I felt like it was the kind of song that people needed in their lives, because I wasn’t sure if there was another song that addresses this “thing” that we all do. Guys (or girls) give girls their sweaters, and then it doesn’t end up working out and you just have other people’s sweaters in your closet…it’s so weird..why does it happen??
What message do you want to convey though you art?
First off, I definitely want to convey that you should never feel bad about your sweater collection, no matter how many sweaters you got in there. Just because it hasn’t worked out for you, doesn’t mean it won’t work out for you. I also want to make sure people know, it’s ok to not be with someone. It’s ok to not have love at every moment. It’s ok to be alone. Yeah, it’s gonna suck sometimes when things don’t work out for you…but tha’ts okay and that’s normal.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
Usually I get my inspiration for songs from my own every day life. Sometimes I get it from my close friends’ lives. It’s always from some sort of thing that actually happened, to someone.
What appeals you the most about songwriting?
I’m a pretty emotional person. For me, I love songwriting because I feel as though after I’ve written out an idea, I feel better. If I’m mad, I write a song about it. If I’m sad, I write a song about it.
What do you think of today's music industry?
It’s always changing, that’s for sure. It’s hard to keep up. I think it’s a lot easier to get yourself heard now that there are more avenues out there, but that also makes it more competitive…and so, it’s also harder to get heard. Does that make sense? I’m an unsigned artist and I’ve been able to release music, and even have one of my songs on the radio in Canada…so I think that’s pretty cool.
What do you think of streaming platforms?
I think each one is super unique and cool in their own way. I pay for all of them so I can learn all of them inside and out as an artist and a listener…and this is why I’m poor lol.
As an artist, what is your ultimate goal?
My ultimate goal is for people to hear my music and connect with my music. The rest is all an added bonus. The thing that makes me the most happy is hearing from fans that they can relate to my music, or seeing them post stories singing my lyrics. I think that’s so cool!
How do you want to be remembered for?
I want to be remembered as honest and fun, and not trying to be anyone else but myself. I want people to sing my songs forever. That would be awesome.
In your opinion, what would make the world a better place?
The world would be a better place if everyone was just nicer to each other. I hate seeing people bring each other down, especially on social media. It’s really sad and mean. I try to spread positivity, kindness, and happiness to everyone around me. Everybody should be doing the same. No one has time for bullshit.
What biggest lessons have you learnt as a human being and as an artist?
The biggest lesson would be not caring so much about what other people think. I used to REALLY care about that… I used to try to be something or somebody that I wasn’t, because I thought that’s what people would like. Then one day I just realized I couldn’t continue on like that. I decided to just do my own thing and make music I liked, and hoped for the best (that other people would like it too). Since then, I’ve been a lot happier in life as a human and as an artist. I don’t want to sound preachy, but being yourself is actually the best thing you can do.
