Bre Kennedy reveals new single "Strings Attached"

After the success of her previous single “Slippin”, Nashville-based artist Bre Kennedy is back with a brand new single entitled “Strings Attached”.

Produced by Kyle Dreaden, the stripped-down single is about not being able to move on from a past relationship.

“It's like I still experience this ghost of a broken relationship and it seems, that no matter how hard I try to cut the tie that binds us, I can never do it completely,” says Kennedy.

The new single explores Kennedy’s vulnerability through emotional vocals and heartfelt lyrics. By offering a different side of her songwriting with this latest release, the Orange County native is highlighting her versatility as a songwriter by painting authentic and personal records.

The singer/songwriter will be releasing her debut EP Jealous of Birds later this year.

“Strings Attached” is now available worldwide.

Hi Bre ! How are you? What have you been up to since our first interview?

Hello sweet Thread! I am wonderful. Since our first interview I have been getting to play "Slippin" out live for the first time and prepping to release more music for this year!

"Strings Attached" is your new single. What's the story behind this song?

This is a very personal song... I wrote this about a relationship I thought I had ended with somebody... but realized I hadn't totally let it go internally... it's like I still experience this ghost of a broken relationship and it seems, that no matter how hard I try to cut the tie that binds us, I can never do it completely.

When did you start working on it? Who did you work with?

I wrote this in my kitchen one evening last summer while I was rehearsing for a show. My guitarist, friend & also incredible songwriter, Matt Koziol, starting playing this haunting guitar part... the verse part of “Strings Attached”... and it triggered something in my subconscious that started singing out what would be become the "Strings Attached".

What did you feel when writing this song?

I felt relief. This was a feeling that I needed to let out. Writing this song helped me heal and talk it out.

What do you like the most about this song?

I LOVE the de-tuning that is happening with the guitar. Matt Koziol is actually de-tuning in real time (if you saw it live) and it creates these creeks and relentless tension which is exactly what I feel when I dive into this subject. I also like the release of the chorus... the feeling of ... "sometimes you're just stuck with a thing like that" ... it just lets the listener (and me haha) know that, sometimes you can't control these feelings... we're only human.

What made you want to release "Strings Attached" as a single?

I wanted to release a song that was a different temperature from my first single "Slippin" to show the contrast of my songwriting and artistry... to invite listeners to have another part of my story.

What can you tell us about your upcoming EP Jealous of Birds ?

Jealous Of Birds will be an EP made up of 5 songs. 5 songs that I've been working on and playing out for over a year of constant stress, and wonder and over coming fear of...(insert any possible feeling of not exceeding expectation as a 20 something) and finding myself. I wanted to call it Jealous Of Birds, because it would be so easy to just fly away from the hard parts... but it's also what makes ME and helps define who I am as human... and I think it's kind of a funny title :) I can't wait to share it, it will be my first EP... and may be leading to something more :)

What message do you want to deliver to the readers of this blog?

That it's okay to be a beautiful mess. That I think we can smile at the heavy stuff. That it's okay to be a human that feels it all but wants to sing it loud and proud in the car.
