Introduce yourself - where are you from?

I’m from El Paso, Texas. This is where I grew up and still live today. I love my city and it’s where I’ve developed and discovered my talents. I still pull inspiration from this city every day.

 What's your story?

I’ve come from a lot of diversity in my life. I grew up in a low income household with no connection to the music industry and was self taught, I learned to write music and sing. I’ve found the blessings in having to work for what I want in life.

Could you describe your childhood a little bit?

I was raised by my mom my whole life. Never had my biological father around much and had a terrible step dad. I moved around a lot too. I lived in many different apartments and homes growing up and went to a lot of different elementary schools also. I was also very quiet and introverted, many of those traits stick with me today.

If you could say something to your younger self, what would you say?

I would tell him to keep doing what you’re doing. I felt I handled things well as a kid.

How would you describe yourself today?

I’m very determined in everything I do. I have to achieve my goals and will go through anything to get it.

When did you start feeling connected to music?

Music was always a part of my life but I feel like I really connected to it when I was in drama class in highschool. That’s where I had to sing in public for the first time. That’s where I learned I loved singing and got more into music in general.

What did you grow up listening to?

I grew up with a lot of hip hop and pop. Missy Elliot, Eminem, 50 cent, and The Black Eyed Peas where all artists I listened to as a kid. As I got older I listened to a lot more Pop and EDM. As well as a lot more soul.

Do you remember a specific moment in your life where music made a huge difference?

I think my early teenage years was where music saved me from a lot of household issues and it helped distract me from the negativity. It really helped me stay sane and have something to look forward to.

When did you start writing songs?

I started writing music from the age of 11. I wouldn’t say I was any good or consistant till I was 17.

When did you know you could sing?

I knew I could sing once I started performing drama plays in highschool around age 16. That’s when I had a lot of people from school tell me how good I was and encouraged me to pursue a career in music.

"Nobody" is your new single. What's the story behind this song?

The song is about feeling and emotion. You can tell by the tone of the lyrics and the feeling of the instrumental. The song is really about sexual tension between two individuals and how their feelings when you feel there is nobody else in the world other than that person.

You worked with Alfredo González and Leslie Johnson on this song. Could you describe us the songwriting/production process? How was it like to work with them?

It was very easy and natural working with them. They understood my sound so a lot of things just happened unconsciously. It was smooth.

What do you like the most about this song?

I really like the intensity of the song. The bass and the performance is something I love and I think A lot of people have gravitated to so far.

When did you realize "Nobody" had to be a single?

I knew it had to be a single because its an attention grabber. It’s a unique sound and feelings it projects are intense and very heartfelt.

What is your goal for this single?

I just want people to connect with this single and get to know me and my music.. If it blows up that would be great but I just want to introduce myself.

How would you define Roman Rouge, the artist?

I think Roman Rouge the artist is diverse and intense. My intention for my music and image is to hit hard and feel extra.

As an artist, what do you want to accomplish?

I really just want to express myself and get my music out there. As well as being able to inspire and lift those that listen to my music.

In your opinion, what would make the world a better place?

A world without racism and hate to the point where someone wants to kill you because of your race, like what happened in El Paso recently.

What biggest life lessons have you learned so far?

Nothing is as it seems. The things that seem promising may not be and things that don’t might be the biggest part of your life.
