Jared Minnix unveils new single "Hydroplane"
Following up his single “Might As Well” released earlier this year, Nashville-based artist Jared Minnix unveiled his new single “Hydroplane” on July 26th.
Co-written with Tim Riehm, Stephen Ellrod and produced by Minnix, the new single is about going into a relationship too fast and hitting something you didn’t see coming.
“Hydroplane” introduces Minnix as a promising producer.
“This was the first song I have ever produced that I have released, so it was definitely challenging. I just had to learn to let it go and hand it off. That nothing is truly perfect. I am very proud of how it turned out,” says Minnix.
By showcasing a brilliant songwriting with timeless melodies, the Virginia-native painted a memorable pop record you want to listen to on repeat.

Hi Jared, how are you? What have you been up to since our first interview?
I’m great, thanks for asking! I have just been hard at work preparing for this release.
You recently released your new single "Hydroplane". What's the story behind this song?
“Hydroplane” is about going into a relationship too fast and hitting something you didn’t see coming. Just like shallow water on the road sometimes something that’s not even that deep or big can cause us to lose control of what we are doing.
When did you start working on this particular song?
We wrote this song on March 12th, 2019. Thanks to my thousands of voice memos I am able to find a recording of me mumbling some words that led to “Hydroplane”.
You co-wrote this song with Tim Riehm and Ellrod. Could you describe us the songwriting process?
Tim and Stephen are some of my favorite cowriters in Nashville. They’re both incredible and always an honor to work with. Tim had the title coming into session and we all agreed on what a cool concept it was. Definitely thought we could have a lot of imagery to enhance the story/metaphor we were going for. Stephen is a melody king so it did not take long to power through the whole song in probably 2 hours or so.
What did you feel when writing this song?
I was super pumped. I knew that we had something special. It was such fresh and original idea that I had never heard before. I was already thinking of all the great visuals that go along with releasing it.
What was your favorite part about producing this track? And what was the “hardest”?
My favorite part of producing this was definitely sneaking in the hidden thunder, rain, and car sounds into the track. This was the first song I have ever produced that I have released, so it was definitely challenging. I just had to learn to let it go and hand it off. That nothing is truly perfect. I am very proud of how it turned out. To be honest I don't really know how I did it haha. It kind of just happened.
What do you like the most about this song?
Definitely the imagery. I love the lyrics we wrote and think that it paints an incredible picture of the story.

What made you want to release "Hydroplane" as a single?
I really believed in the message and wanted to put out a song that I would be able to have tons of visual and content with.
Could you tell us more about the visuals behind "Hydroplane"? What vision did you have in mind?
Zach Pigg and his wife Chelsea are definitely the brain behind all of the amazing visuals we got from this release. I was so blessed to work with them on every piece of promo we put out. They were able to take my vision and execute it beyond what I could imagine.
What message do you want to deliver to the readers of this blog?
Well, I guess when listeners hear “Hydroplane”, I hope they are instantly placed into the story. I think it's a very relatable subject that can not only apply in relationships but in life as well. Whether if it’s storming in your life or not. If you are being careful or pedal down flying, you can sometimes easily lose control. But it’s okay. I don’t think we always need to be in control. Sometimes the hydroplane will lead to a spin out or wreck that wakes us up. It can grab your attention and maybe give you a new perspective on something. So I hope listeners get a second chance and new perspective on what they might be going through in life.
