Alesia Lani
There’s no doubt that Alesia Lani’s new single is a big record. “I Don’t Mind” is funky, groovy and retro. I fell in love with the verse melodies and the massive chorus. Lani’s vocals are powerful and soulful, QB Smith smashed the production and the music video is a must see. “I Don’t Mind” is the perfect spring record. It is colorful and fun, and it will definitely get stuck in your head :)
Congrats Alesia for this new banger and thank you so much for the chat !
“I Don’t Mind” is out now !!
Introduce yourself - what's your story?
Basically, I’m a midwest born, Texas-raised r&b soul singer who just gets to enjoy doing what I love. Love to write, cook beautiful tasty dishes, raise my lil' queen in training, & make dope-ass music for people to relate to.
"I Don't Mind" is your new single - what's the inspiration behind this song?
Whatever we call “dating” these days lol that's where the inspiration came from. Basically it's about me setting my standards and showing my forward & sexy side.
When did you start working on "I Don't Mind"? Could you describe the songwriting/production process? Who helped you create it?
“I Don’t Mind” was created last summer in June in LA. I created the track with my producer QB. After playing multiple tunes (nothing was grabbing me) he played this one. Immediately the bass drew me in & we began writing the song. The final recording was done a couple of months later back in Austin & we shot the video in October in LA! Working on this track from start to finish has been so thrilling. Can’t wait to share!
What do you like the most about this song?
I love the bass line & how sassy the song is with it!
What can you tell us about the music video and the artwork for the song?
It’s very retro, 70’s driven! My video is fun, basically me having a photoshoot with some performance scenes in between. The team really came together to nail the looks, the styles & the whole vibe of that time! The flyer was fun as well, I went the Blaxploitation theme route using “Supa Fly” as my inspiration.
What made you want to release "I Don't Mind" as a single?
I mean why not, it’s such a fun track. It's the first groove track I ever did as well. It grooves so effortlessly, not needing too many lyrics & the story is just enough as is.
What message do you want to deliver through this song?
I’m too grown to play games, don't’ waste my time & we can have a good time lol
As an artist, what is the hardest part? And what is the best part?
The hardest I would say is the best part. For me would be to have the right people in your corner to help get to all the achievements. Depending on your team, your tribe to carry on their part to keep the mothership going. I’m grateful every day.
What are your thoughts on today's music industry? If you could change one thing, what would it be?
It's growing and changing every single day. I love to see so many creative people be so brave & vulnerable enough to share. But if I could change one thing, it would be to not be so social media dependent. That's like a job within itself lol
What is the proudest moment of your career so far?
My proudest moment would have to be hitting ACL Fest in 2019 then touring Canada & Asia.
What's the best advice you've ever received?
Don’t Stop babygirl.
What advice would you give to artists out there?
To stay consistent & build your tribe. Keep the right people around you.
In your opinion, what would make the world a better place?
If we all drink water & mind our own business. Lol
What biggest life lessons have you learned so far?
To always try to learn from my mistakes and choices. Progress with every move I make.
