Camden

Luke Harvey // Mossflower Pictures

This is the second time I am featuring Camden on my blog and I’m proud to feature him for this new stunning single. It is soulful, jazzy and overall a feel good song. It brings warmth during winter time and we all need that right now. Camden’s voice is my favorite thing about this record, along with the dope production (shout out to EyeLoveBrandon and Will Sensicle).

The single made it to Spotify’s New Music Friday UK and that’s pretty amazing. I always get super excited when artists I know make it to these Spotify playlists, so it definitely made me happy to see that :)

Now go stream “What Are The Odds” :) Music video coming out soon !!

Hi Camden, happy new year !! How are you? What have you been up to?

Hey, doing well, thank you! Mainly been working on new music, and promotion for my new single, “What Are The Odds”.

"What Are The Odds" is your new single - what's the story/inspiration behind this song?
I wrote it with Will Sensicle on my first trip to London 3 years ago. The song is about human connection, more specifically when you’re not expecting it.

You made this song with EyeLoveBrandon and Will Sensicle - how did it come about? How did you meet them?

A friend of mine heard I was going to London, and told me I should write with his friend, Will Sensicle. We wrote “What Are The Odds” the first day we met at my friend’s flat in Balham.

Earlier that year I came across EyeLoveBrandon’s instagram through a post Mac Ayers made. Brandon and I started working on some collaboration ideas, and when I brought him “What Are The Odds”, we both felt like it was a good fit.

Could you please describe the songwriting/production process?

Will and I first wrote the song on guitar and piano, and had created a cheesy drum loop on Logic to play to. We recorded it on a voice memo and sent it to EyeLoveBrandon who then made a drum loop (a good one), and laid down the keys. Will recorded guitar over that track, and had a friend named Owen Burns play bass. I recorded the vocals in my bedroom, and then we sent it to Aurelian Merz in London to mix it. It was a lot of emailing back and forth because we all live in different cities/countries.

What do you like the most about this song?

The drop on the chorus, and the guitar solo.

What made you want to release "What Are The Odds" as a single?

It felt genuine to me, and when the mix started coming together, I had the picture in my head of what the music video would look like. I guess I just wanted to put it out there.

What can you tell us about the upcoming music video?

It was shot in Nashville by my friend Luke Harvey from Mossflower Pictures, and features two artist friends of mine, Benedict and Jamiah. It also comes out Feb.10th just before Valentines day.

What major life lessons have you learned in 2020?

I think I’ve become a better listener when it comes to the feelings of those around me, and even people not around me. It’s important to put ourselves in the shoes of others and do whatever we can to show love.

What are your goals for 2021?

I want to release an EP.

What message do you want to give to the world?

There’s a lot of people dealing with depression and loneliness, especially with the pandemic and political turmoil going on. I guess I just want those people to know that they’re not alone, and so many of us deal with that stuff. It doesn’t make things instantly better, but maybe it will encourage dialogue and a sense of community to help overcome those obstacles.
