Carmie

Danish singer/songwriter Carmie has just released her latest single “Talk To Me”, off her upcoming EP, due for release later this year.

The new single is about mental health and having the courage to ask for help during tough times.

"I’ve been in that place where I couldn’t reach someone I deeply wanted to help. It’s a feeling of powerlessness, but also profound care — and that’s exactly the emotion I wanted to capture in this song,” she explains.

After releasing her debut EP Lost In May, she has since performed at major festivals in Denmark. Her song “Things I No Longer Do” was selected as ‘Ugens Hittip’ (Track of the Week) on Denmark’s biggest radio channel DR P4. She will return to Musikhuset Aarhus as the opening act for Emma Sehested Høeg in March.

Carmie definitely has a lot to offer this year and I’m proud to feature another promising and talented Danish artist.

Do you remember your earliest musical memory?

I remember joining a choir when I was nine years old. It was such an amazing feeling to sing with so many talented people at once. I really looked up to the older girls in the choir — they were such an inspiration.

What did you grow up listening to?

I grew up listening to a lot of country and folk music. Artists like Norah Jones, and bands like Hush and Fleetwood Mac were big influences on me.

When did you know you could sing?

Hmm… I’ve always felt comfortable singing. It just felt like an instinctive thing — I never really felt ashamed of it. I couldn’t hold back; it was just a natural part of who I am.

Who are some of your biggest inspirations? Could you list a few records that influence the music you are making today?

When I first started releasing music, I was deeply inspired by soul music and organic, live instrumentation. Artists like Jorja Smith and Lianne La Havas, both as singers and songwriters, had a huge impact on me. Over time, I’ve also become really drawn to pop with R&B and folk influences, listening a lot to artists like Holly Humberstone and Lizzy McAlpine.

These records have had a big influence on my music:

  • "Lost & Found" – Jorja Smith

  • "Can You Afford To Lose Me?" – Holly Humberstone

Who was the first person to ever believe in you professionally?

My parents. They’ve supported me from a very young age, and they’ve always believed in my music and my dreams.

"Talk To Me" is your latest single – what's the inspiration/story behind this song?

“Talk To Me” is about reaching out to others in difficult times. The song reflects the feeling of standing by helplessly as a loved one struggles with depression, withdraws from the world, and falls into self-destructive habits. It’s about the kind of love that endures even when distance grows — a quiet frustration mixed with a deep commitment to be there, even when it feels like there’s nothing left to say.

The song is a call for connection. It’s both an invitation to open up and a reminder of how important it is to reach out, even when it feels hard to find the right words. In a time when mental health struggles are often overlooked, I wanted to shed light on the silent battles many people face and highlight the love that comes from holding onto each other through tough times.

Could you describe the songwriting/production process for this song? When did you start working on it

I started writing this song last year, when I was still in the midst of feeling everything I was writing about. The process was fairly simple. I wrote the song and then shared it with my producer in the studio. Together, we shaped it into what it is today.

What's your favorite lyric on this song?

"You take your time, just talk to me and we’ll be fine."

What made you want to release "Talk To Me" as a single?

I was afraid the message of the song might get lost if it was buried within a larger project. I wanted to make sure this song had the space to really be heard, as it deals with such a personal and important subject.

What can you tell us about your upcoming EP?

Talk To Me is one of two singles I’ll be releasing this year. The final EP will have five tracks in total — three from last year and two new ones — and it will mark the end of this chapter in my music. The EP will explore a wide range of emotions connected to growing up: dependence, insecurity, breakups, and determination.

What does singing make you feel?

It helps me communicate the feelings I often have a hard time expressing otherwise. It feels like my closest friend — always there for me.

As an artist, what are the biggest challenges? And what's the best part about being an artist?

The biggest challenge for me is dealing with the uncertainty that comes with making decisions about my music. From what to wear on stage to how to promote myself on social media — there’s a lot of pressure to get everything right.
The best part is definitely the relationships I’ve built through music. My boyfriend and best friends are also my colleagues, which makes everything feel less like work. When you’re surrounded by people who are passionate about what they do, it never feels like a job.

In your opinion, what would make the world a BETTER place?

More music!

What biggest lessons have you learned in 2024?

To take my time. I’ve realized that there’s no need to rush things. Good things take time, and it’s okay to go at your own pace.

What are your goals for this new year?

I’d love to perform more concerts with my band. It’s my favorite thing to do. I’m also hoping to play at more Danish festivals next year.
