Cassie Marin

Singer/songwriter/producer/multi-instrumentalist Cassie Marin has just released her new single “Busy Body” and this is one of the coolest songs I’ve heard this month. I needed to hear something interesting, exciting, different and refreshing, and “Busy Body” is all these things. I LOVE the r&b vibe and the topic of the song is perfect. Cassie’s vocals are effortless and soulful, and the production might be my favorite part of this song. Brilliant.

“Busy Body” is a smash.

Introduce yourself - what's your story?

Hi! I’m Cassie Marin and I’m a singer, producer, multi instrumentalist and songwriter. I’m originally from Miami, Florida but now live in Los Angeles. I started playing piano at the age of 3 and then started composing and songwriting throughout my childhood. I started learning how to produce once I graduated high school. My story, like everyone else’s, is a unique one. In my case, it’s all there in my music.

"Busy Body" is your new single - what gave you the inspiration to write this song?

“Busy Body” came to life as a freestyle about social media and the paranoia of being watched. The song came together pretty quickly. I was just having a moment and it felt like the song almost wrote itself.

When did you start working on "Busy Body"? Could you describe the songwriting/production process? Who helped you create it?

I worked with my friend Devon Corey on “Busy Body.” He has really encouraged me to embrace the freestyle type of writing process.

What did you feel when writing this song?

Honestly when I freestyle, sometimes it’s as if I’m not really thinking about anything at all— and then suddenly, as I’m listening to the music, a topic comes to the front of my thoughts and I just run with it.

What's your favorite thing about this song?

I love how it feels like something I would have enjoyed listening to as a teenager.

What made you want to release "Busy Body" as a single?

Definitely encouragement from Devon [Corey], haha.

What can you tell us about the artwork?

The artwork and visuals were heavily inspired by one of my favorite movies ‘Cable Guy’ starring Jim Carrey. Since the themes of the song embody the feeling of being watched/stalked, I thought of ‘Cable Guy’ and wanted to execute that visual for Busy Body.

What message do you want to deliver through this song?

Social media has really changed the way we communicate, interact and form friendships. There are billions of people on the internet and yet somehow it’s still a lonely place. My message with “Busy Body” is to use caution online, we’re all searching for connection and longing for love. Always listen to your gut and embrace friendships that make you feel like you can be yourself.

As a producer, what equipment and software do you usually use? What do you like the most about producing your own music?

I primarily use Logic. I love being able to let my imagination run wild through endless sounds— learning to produce was one of the greatest journeys for me.

What are your thoughts on today's music industry? If you could change one thing, what would it be?

If I could change one thing about the music industry, it would be to treat all people as people. I see a lack of humanity in all industries and it’s something we all need to work on.

What biggest life lessons have you learned so far?

Love yourself and trust yourself :)

In your opinion, what would make the world a better place?

If people could real life Freaky Friday to understand what it’s like to walk in another person’s shoes.
