Clean Out Louis
Copenhagen-based duo Clean Out Louis are back with a brand new single titled “I’m In Love”.
Fusing colorful sounds and catchy melodies, “I’m In Love” offers a positive and anthemic record about falling in love and the scary feeling behind it.
'I'm In Love' is a song about new love and the lack of courage to act on it. It's about all the things you could be with this person, if you’d only dare. But out of fear of what might go wrong, the relationship doesn't move forward. It’s a naïve and contradictory approach to the subject, however, written with optimism even though love remains a fantasy,” they explain.
Clean Out Louis is a breath of fresh air in today’s music industry.
“I’m In Love” is available now !!
Hey guys, how are you? What's the story behind Clean Out Louis?
We’re brilliant, thank you!
Clean Out Louis consists of Mingus and Sylvester, both 23 years old. We decided early on in our friendship that we wanted to make a band and tour the world, but at that time we hadn’t made any music, yet the band was created!
There was no doubt. A couple of years went by, and then on a trip to a cabin in the woods, we made three songs, and from there we knew we had found the music for our band.
"I'm In Love" is your latest single - what's the inspiration behind this song?
The inspiration for this song was love, but more specifically, the naive and nerve-wracking state of mind of falling in love and not daring to share it with the person you’ve fallen in love with.
Could you describe the songwriting/production process behind this single? When did you start working on it?
The lead melody started as a guitar riff, which quickly became the lead melody in the chorus. We wanted all the instruments to be in love, in a dizzy and wonky way, and the same goes for the drums.
The lyrics came quickly and were written when love was upon us.
What do you want people to feel when listening to it? What message do you want to deliver?
To feel good! No matter what kind of love they may have, because it’s still love <3
What's your favorite thing about this song?
The chorus/hook.
What can you tell us about the artwork?
We wanted to make a visual side to the song that represented all kinds of people because love is maybe the most universal thing we can think of. So why not have all our friends come in and give us some love, imagined as red lipstick stains :)
You are based in Copenhagen - could you tell us about the music scene out there? Any artist(s) you'd like to recommend?
It’s actually really good, with some serious alternative pop out there, lots of artists singing in Danish (like Gubbi) and lots of English-singing artists, such as Guzo, who just released a killer EP.
Could you list a few records that influenced the music you are making today?
Sure! Here are some recommendations that we blasted on road trips while writing our upcoming single and EP:
Gorillaz - Demon Days, Plastic Beach, The Now Now
Little Simz - Sometimes I Might Be Introvert
Young Fathers - Cocoa Sugar
Toro Y Moi - MAHAL
What are the biggest lessons you've learned since the beginning of your career?
Good question. Probably the importance of consistency, especially when the music becomes frustrating. When you get through the frustrating parts, it becomes even more fun. And especially being a nice person, because no one wants to sit next to you on a tour bus if you’re a dick.
In your opinion, what would make the world a BETTER place?
As the good ol’ Justin Timberlake once said, "What goes around comes around"—and all jokes aside, it’s facts.
If we meet people with stereotypes and biases, they’ll meet us that way too. We can’t get anywhere with anyone if we don’t come together as one!
