Janet Noh
Quick interview with Janet Noh to talk about her latest single “Oh Child”. Vulnerable, personal and emotional, the self-written/produced single is a love letter to her younger self.
Noh has been featured on my blog as one of the Artists of The Month after the release of her last EP Love Me More. You definitely need to keep an eye on her.
“Oh Child” is now available everywhere.
What biggest lessons have you learned since the release of your debut EP Love Me More ?
There’s an element of letting go and letting the songs find the people who need to hear them.
"Oh Child" is your latest single - what's the story/inspiration behind this song?
I wrote it as a love letter to my younger self who needed to know she’s safe and can accept love from others as well as herself.
When did you start working on it? Could you describe the songwriting/production process for this single? Who helped you create it?
I started writing it in 2020 when I started inner child therapy. I wrote the song myself and composed the piano interlude in 2024, which I felt was the final missing piece to the song. Then my friend Akini suggested adding guitar so we got in the studio with a guitarist he connected me with.
After that I decided I wanted to compose a violin and cello part, and decided to record strings. Stacked them to create an orchestra sound which I added at the final chorus to create an epic soundscape.
What did you feel when writing/recording this song?
Healing.
What's your favorite lyric on "Oh Child"?
The first verse.
What do you want people to feel when listening to it?
A feeling of being nurtured as a child.
How do you want to be remembered for?
An artist who works through darkness and pain to find the light and shares it with others who need it.
