Lioba

Lioba’s new single “At The Pool” is a huge record. The production is insanely amazing and Lioba’s unique tone and melodies definitely make her stand out from the crowd. “At The Pool” is the first single off her upcoming debut album titled Magnolia and it feels like it is a good introduction to what’s about to come.

At The Pool is available now !

Introduce yourself - what's your story?

My name is Lioba, 27, and I’m a solo artist. I was 7 when I was standing on a stage the first time and that haven’t changed until now. With my band I already released two EP’s and next year in April I’ll release my debut album Magnolia. I worked on it the last three years, shot nice videos and just before I seemed to lose all energy in this everlasting process my team grew and now we’ll release this sh**.

What gave you the confidence to be a solo artist?

Practice, practice, practice and the feedback from the audience.

Who was the first person to ever believe in you?

My mother.

"At the Pool" is your new single - what's the inspiration behind this single?

At the end of 2019 I had this one thought that my album is going to be a concept album with this theme of cheating from the perpetrator's point of view and the thought included that I had to write a song about “the night where it all began”.

Could you describe the songwriting/production process for this single? Who helped you create it? When did you start working on this song?

I started to write the text in the beginning of 2020 in the middle of nowhere in Bali where I spend some time alone. When I was back in Hamburg I told my producer what kind of feelings I want to express with the song and and to our next session he brought the instrumental sketch on which I immediately started to sing.

What did you feel when writing this song?

Guiltyness.

What's your favorite lyric on this single?

“Swaying in the movements, find me in the moment”.

What made you want to release "At the Pool" as a single?

It's a good song to kick off the album and we have a great music video to go with it.

What can you tell us about your upcoming album Magnolia?

In this album I reflect the whole process I lived through after I cheated. This is the most intimate story I’ve ever told and that’s why it’s the best piece of music I ever wrote.

As an artist, what is the hardest part? And what is the best part?

The hardest thing is to keep up and the best thing is when you kept up and look at all those excited faces in the audience.

How's it like to be a woman in the music industry? What message do you want to deliver to women out there?

I never had any problems with this woman/man-problem in the industry but when I see festival line ups with only three women I’m getting angry. To all women: Let’s keep writing great music, stick together and keep fighting for more equality in every kind of way.

What are your thoughts on today's music industry? If you could change one thing, what would it be?

People are overwhelmed with all the music they are able to listen to. It’s too much and for my opinion too much meaningless lyrics. I’d want to change that there are only songs with content that helps us move forward.

What advice do you want to give to artists?

Uff.. I don’t want to give advices.. I think music has so much power and we have to be aware of the direction in which we are directing it.

In your opinion, what would make the world a better place?

Less capitalism, more solidarity.

What biggest life lessons have you learned so far?

When you’re sending out positive energy you’ll get it back!
