PLENTY
To be honest with you, PLENTY’s debut single “I Don’t Wanna Know” was one of my favorite songs of 2020 and I still listen to it today. She’s just released her second single, titled “Love The Way You Hate” and it’s another pop banger. The production and the melodies are insanely GOOD. I love that her music is influenced by the early 2000’s and today’s modern sound. That’s one of the reasons why I love what she does. Her music is different from what we hear today. It’s pop and it’s catchy, but that pop sound coming from Europe and especially Norway has this different sound that stands out from everything else. It’s refreshing and it feels great. I believe the new song is even better than the first one, which is super exciting to hear. PLENTY is only starting her career but I’m sure a lot of people will be hearing about her very soon. An incredible talent for sure.
“Love The Way You Hate” is now available worldwide :)
Hi Plenty ! How are you? What have you been up to?
Hi Thread! I’m good, thank you. To be honest, I’ve been trying to find inspiration in every little thing I experience or do throughout the day last year. Maybe this is some sort of surviving mechanism? Haha, I don’t know. But I think this year has been the toughest one for so many people, and I think we’ve gotten to know our self so much better, both on the negative and positive parts.. but we’ve gotten to learn things about ourselves that we would never had known if it wasn’t for this year. Dont think I’m saluting Covid now, Covid can literally piss off haha. But yeah, like I said; trying to find the positive in the negative I guess. Think this is how I cope constant boring days??
"Love The Way You Hate" is your new single - what's the inspiration/story behind this song?
The inspiration behind “LTWYH” is simply rising above and loving what others hate about you. Finding that self love within that boosts your confidence is what makes you beautiful. There is no answer to being beautiful. Then why don’t we all just be it, and then love the haters on the way. They’ll probably need it anyway..
When did you start working on this song? Who helped you create it? Could you describe the songwriting/production process for this single?
This was actually the first song I wrote back in the studio after the first lockdown last year. The whole song process started with my friend, and co-writer, Vanja singing the talking part in the chorus over a loop my producer Joel had ready- and I loooved it. I needed it in a song. We continued on the path she’d created and I freestyled some lyrics, and ended up with randomly singing “love the way you hate”. In the moment the concept just fell in my head like something you’ve forgotten, but was supposed to remember. We got some “demo-lyrics” down, and then a whole year later I got some help from my other writer, Cate, to finish it up. I went in the studio recording it in January, and then we had the finished product.. A whole year later, with another lockdown :)
What's your favorite thing about this song?
My favorite thing/part about the song is probably the talking part in the chorus. It’s just so effortless, but yet it clearly reflects what I wanted to say. But I also have the outro close to my heart since this is a whole new vibe PLENTY is presenting, and bringing to life in her upcoming projects…
What made you want to release "Love The Way You Hate" as a single?
In my opinion “LTWYH” is a brilliant follow up to “IDWK”. It’s important to me to have an established base for PLENTY as an artist and her sound, and these two songs are perfect for that.
What can you tell us about the artwork?
The idea behind the artwork was the same as for “I Don’t Wanna Know”. I wanted a bubblegummy, pink vibe on the cover. I love the contrast from my dramatic sound, to the 90’s girly look. I also feel like this helps me from not drowning in the more darker sound I’m presenting in the music.
What is your goal for this song?
My goal for this song is to reach for more playlists than I did last. My last single did pretty well on radio, but not as much when it came to listing on Spotify. So more playlistings, bigger playlists, and more streams than last time.
What are your thoughts on today's music industry? If you could change one thing, what would it be?
The differences of power when it comes to women and men in the industry. I want more women in charge, loader voices from the girls in the back, and a bit less confidence from most men. You do not know it all, either does the women- but believe me; they know at least as much as you. All you have to do is give them the same chance someone once gave you.
What biggest life lessons have you learned so far?
That literally nobody gives a shit. People don’t care that your dress is tight, or that your hair is extra big today. IF THEY DO you’re supposed to love the way they hate, cause you’re better than that. You’re better than caring about others urge to hate on non-important things. If they wanna use their energy on hating on details about you- love it. If you think about it, it’s actually kinda flattering… Don’t give a shit. ‘Cause nobody else does.
What message do you want to deliver to the world?
This is your life, your one and only. Don’t waste it, but don’t be too precious about it either. Take risks and live dangerous. Stay home when others go out, and do your make up to make yourself feel better. Take care of yourself. We have important people in our lives that mean the world to us, but always remember to love yourself too. Love YOURSELF. ‘Cause if you have a good time in your own mind and company, others will too. They’ll follow, but you need to make your profile first. Be your own person, your own main character.
