LVRBOY
As I am writing this, I only heard LVRBOY’s new single like three times but it’s been stuck in my head every day ever since I heard it for the first time. It is by far my favorite LVRBOY song. It is anthemic, big, different and catchy. The rock influence is definitely what I needed to hear and I am hoping to hear more of that in a near future. It is definitely a song to hear live. One hell of a smash. Congrats LVRBOY !
“sick of me” is out now so go stream it on repeat :)
"sick of me" is your first single of the year - what made you want to release this song as the first single?
“sick of me” is only about 5 months old but, when I wrote it, I immediately knew I wanted it to come out at the top of the year. It just felt so me and sounded like the season of life I was in.
Could you describe the songwriting/production process for this single? Who helped you create it?
I entered the write with a chorus melody and, when I showed it to my co-writers STRUAN and Matt Harris, they were immediately hooked. I can’t really recall who came up with the title, “sick of me,” but I do remember talking about my own experiences of how my friends think I’m an idiot for hanging onto a past relationship. Once we wrote it, I immediately knew the producer that would help me bring it to life. Julianne Hope, an amazing producer/writer/friend based out of LA and I did a lot of production over FaceTime, and we finished it up on a trip I took to LA in November 2021. She’s a homie, and we had fun creating this one.
"sick of me" has some rock influences - what inspired you to do this type of production for this song?
Obviously, the rock/pop/punk thing is huge right now and, because I grew up playing in a pop-rock band, I really latch onto songs that do that really well. I’m not a rock artist and, there were versions of this song that just went absolutely wayyyy too hard for my project (haha), but I definitely wanted to serve the song and making it a rock LVRBOY track. I can’t wait to play this one live!!!
What's your favorite thing about this song?
I think my favorite thing about this song is that I got to show a little bit of my versatility. I’m LVRBOY and I sing sad pop songs, but I I got to share a little bit of my angst with this one and that was fun.
How did your music evolve since your first release? How would you describe your music today?
I think it was important to establish what to expect from me with my earlier releases. With the newer stuff, I’m enjoying taking chances and diving deeper into LVRBOY. My music is for the hopeless romantics and the over-romanticizers.
Any favorite current songs? Any artists you'd like to recommend?
I constantly go back to Jeremy Zucker-supercuts and JP Saxe- Little Bit of Yours, but over the course of the last few years have really got into Dominic Fike. Recently found Sammy Rash on Tik Tok and really vibe with him. Of course, been waiting on that new Lauv record.
What are your goals for 2022?
Sign a deal. Get on a tour. Play my first big festival. Put out another record.
What is the thing you are the most proud of?
My work ethic :)
