Madelline
This is my last feature of the year and I couldn’t be more excited about this song !! Madelline created an amazing record with “Uh Uh (Outside)”. When you first listen to the introduction, you don’t expect this song to go the way it goes. It’s unexpected, and it’s really cool to hear those brilliant melodies throughout the whole song. "This is a genre I affectionately refer to as “Mary Poppins core”. “Uh Uh (outside)” blends whimsical elements of vintage musical theatre nostalgia I grew up on & bratty early 2000s pop a la the icons Gwen Stefani and Fergie. For the cover art I dressed up as Mary Poppins outside a club flying on my umbrella but with thigh high, lace up, 6 inch platform boots flashing out of my skirt,” she explains.
Produced by Boy Blue, “Uh Uh (Outside)” is a big record that deserves so much attention.

"Uh Uh (outside)" is your latest single - what's the inspiration behind this song?
I got in the studio with Boy Blue (producer) and Emeline (singer/songwriter) and we were listening to a lot of Fergie and Gwen and this sort of fell out of us! I’ve been integrating a lot of my theatrical roots in my music as of recently as well so a vintage theatrical intro felt so right. I wanted a whimsical moment to drop into something unexpected, like Charli XCX being teleported into a 1950’s musical.
Could you describe the songwriting/production process behind this song? When did you start working on it? Who helped you create it?
We made this song really fast, it only took a day and a half in the studio! I barely made any lyric changes from the first iteration.
What did you feel when recording this song?
I felt sexy, fun, and playful! This song is definitely referential to my earlier era I had on my EP “NOISE COMPLAINT”, which is more aggressive and vibe based while including elements of my new sound.
What's your favorite lyric on "Uh Uh (outside)"?
The most controversial lyric and my favorite lyric is “wanna love me you’d be lucky wanna sip my cherry slushy” (laughs). It’s just so ridiculous and dumb I love it.
What message do you want to deliver through this song? What do you want people to feel when listening to this song?
I want people to have fun and to play! I want them to feel badass and sexiiiiii and just enjoy themselves in the moment.
What can you tell us about the artwork?
The artwork is actually such a funny concept, I began calling this song genre “Mary Poppins Core” because (mentioned earlier) at one point in the song it sounds like a vintage musical and then turns into this hot club banger. So what I did to represent that for the cover art is I dressed up as sexy Mary Poppins and I’m floating away into the sky on my umbrella outside of a club. I love how this artwork marries the eclectic blend of genres together.
What made you want to release "Uh Uh (outside)" as a single?
It slapped in the car & my manager was down to put it out on his label because he loved the song as well. We went for it!
How do people respond to this song so far?
I got a really nice message from a supporter telling me that the song made her feel empowered and confident which touched me!
What biggest life lessons have you learned this year?
The biggest life lesson I’ve learned this year so far is to follow my intuition. If something feels off about someone or something it most likely is right. I had a really important show this year and nagging, negative feeling about someone I had hired to do it with me and so I trusted that feeling and found a replacement. When I told them I had found someone else, they admitted to me that they didn’t know how to do what I was asking them to do anyways and they were concerned about it. There was so much that could have gone wrong! I ended up hiring someone who absolutely crushed it. Also, intuition really works in the positive as well. My intuition told me to lock in with this producer duo JENGA that I’d made music with and they’ve become a huge part in writing/producing my upcoming album and helping to shape the sound. I’m so unbelievably excited for this next chapter of music.
In your opinion, what would make the world a BETTER place?
If our politicians and world leaders take a strong stance on climate change and actually enact legislation that keeps greedy corporations under control & helps to save and protect our planet, our home.
What can we expect to hear/see next?
You can expect a concept album and my first ever headline tour starting in March!! I have so many fun surprises planned.
