Somewhat Stable

I got introduced to Somewhat Stable through nika jane and what a beautiful surprise. I love hearing productions with massive synthesizers and big drums, and “Before We Say Goodbye” has these two things. But it also has anthemic melodies and great harmonies. You only need to hear the intro to know that the song is an instant smash. What a record.

I am honestly super excited to hear more from them because this first single is one hell of an introduction.

“Before We Say Goodbye” is now available worldwide :)

"Before We Say Goodbye" is your debut single as Somewhat Stable - how's it like to release your first single together?

Honestly it has been a really long yet super fun experience. This single has been in the works for almost 8 months, and for it to finally release has been such a joy. All the love and support we have gotten from it is really empowering and super awesome.

What was the inspiration/story behind "Before We Say Goodbye"?

The inspiration of this song was as most songs are these days, a past relationship. It was one of those things that felt so perfect, but at the same time was completely not perfect. The lyrics actually came pretty quickly, it only took a couple days to write and polish.

Could you describe the songwriting/production process for this single? When did you start working on it?

Well for this song, the melody came before the lyrics itself. It was a demo that I had made on a creative splurge one night that I kinda just left alone and didn’t think back to. Then I rediscovered a couple months later, and was just like “hey, let’s see where this goes”. The lyrics are about knowing that a relationship is going to end, and all the wants and desires you have before things start to go downwards, hence “Before We Say Goodbye”.

What's your favorite thing about this song?

My favorite thing about this song is how it’s kinda a sad song written to the most upbeat melody possible. It’s like all these super bright synths and big drums make you not even realize that the song itself isn’t super happy.

What made you want to release "Before We Say Goodbye" as your debut single?

Well this song is the first to come of a couple of singles, then will eventually be wrapped up in a final EP project mesh. This song also will start the EP, so it’s kinda like an introduction to what the EP will feel like. I also find it pretty funny that the first song of the EP is talking about an ending.

What can you tell us about the artwork?

The artwork for this single was a photo taken by my good friend Nika Jane. It’s based in a playground, which I feel flows with the vibe of the song, very playful and fun and bright.

What is your goal for this single?

Honestly the goal for this single was actually just to release it. We had a bunch of problems with our first choice distributer, from artwork issues to rejecting the single on the original release date, almost a whole month before it’s just now release. But that time between then and now gave us an opportunity to revamp the song and make it feel bigger and better, so I see those problems as more of a blessing than a curse.

How would you define Somewhat Stable?

Somewhat Stable represents us very well. We all want to be doing great, but life happens to catch up to us, so it’s hard to feel great. At the same time, you can’t give in to the issues life throws at you, and so you are kinda set in this limbo state. We aren’t doing amazing, nor are we doing completely awful. We are just, Somewhat Stable.
