"Music" by Jojo
I grew up listening to Jojo. Her first record was one of the first records I've ever bought. Her second record was on repeat and I think I probably know every adlib off this record.
There are so many things I want to write but I'll try to keep it short. Jojo is one of the greatest vocalists and one of the most inspiring artists out there, but the thing I love the most about her is her ability to make us feel every emotion when she sings. Her songs "Save My Soul", "Say Love" and "I Am" are some of my favorite songs - not only for the lyrics/topics but for the emotion she conveys. We can hear/feel the pain and sadness in her voice and being able to do that is fucking amazing. That’s what I love the most about artists. You can have a great song with great lyrics and production but if the emotion isn’t there, I don’t really want to hear it.
I know it's from 2016 but "Music" has become one of my favorite songs ever so I felt like writing about it. I remember crying the first time I heard it. Music is my best friend. It saved me from so many things. Every time I would go through something difficult, I would listen to some music on shuffle and God or the Universe would play me the song I needed to hear at that exact moment. It's almost a spiritual connection, which is pretty crazy. There were times I thought I would never see the light again, times where I didn’t want to feel anymore, but music always saved me. Listening to "Music" always makes me emotional. It takes me back to all those times where I felt defeated, sad, depressed, alone, not good enough, unloved - but somehow always managed to feel okay again.
Tell me who, who would I be without you?
No matter how much we lose
Every time I bet my life on you
Tell me who, would I be without you?
Nothing I'd rather do
Every night I bet my life on you
Who would I be without you?
Thank you Jojo for this song, for these words and thank you for making us feel less alone.
"Music" is one of the most beautiful, emotional and important songs I've ever heard from Jojo. And it's probably the best song I’ve ever heard about Music. It's real, it's who she is. And I truly believe we all have that deep connection with music. We are never alone.
Keep singing, Jojo. Thank you for what you do.
