LEADR never ceases to amaze me. I discovered LEADR with the song “Hi, I’m Human” and I was immediately amazed by their talent and their authentic sound.
Today LEADR has a new song out. It’s called “Apple + Tangerine” and it is their first release of 2022. It is one-of-a-kind and it is one of my favorite LEADR songs. The new single features artist/producer Wundr and poet/writer/artist Jazmine Myleigh and it is the first time that LEADR includes some Vietnamese into his music. Absolutely beautiful and magical.
The production stands out from what we’re used to listen to these days. I’m honestly tired of hearing the same shit every day and LEADR makes things interesting and exciting. “Apple + Tangerine” is cinematic. The melodies are captivating and haunting, the vocals are incredible and the spoken words bring so much depth and emotion to the record. “Apple + Tangerine” is a song that a lot of people would be able to relate to.
I don’t know if LEADR is familiar with JMSN’s first album but this song reminds me of the work JMSN did on his first album Priscilla released in 2012. I haven’t heard anything like it since this release and LEADR is bringing back what I’ve been missing all these years. LEADR’s music feels dark, edgy, hopeful, empowering and fucking authentic. I mean, who else does what LEADR does today?! Look at their visuals and listen to their songs and you will think: “this is different and refreshing”.
LEADR is continuing to pave the way for queer Asian artists in the US and around the world, and I can’t wait to see LEADR blow up worldwide :)
