"Twenties" (Deluxe) by Bren Joy : in brief
I discovered Bren Joy in 2019. My goal was to discover more Nashville-based artists. I was interviewing so many artists from there back then, I wanted to know more about these incredible artists. And Bren Joy was one of these recommendations. Shout out Kat Saul !!
And what a surprise it was.
Bren Joy is one of the best artists I’ve ever heard. It’s the type of music I listen to on a daily basis, and it feels good to discover artists like him. His record Twenties is fucking incredible. “Henny in the Hamptons” was my favorite. I liked how authentic and different his sound was. I’ve never heard something like this before. I thought to myself “this guy is a genius”.
I’ve been waiting for new music for a little while, and it finally happened.
He recently dropped the deluxe version of his record Twenties. What a smart move it was. I’ve been listening to it on repeat and it is honestly one of the best records ever released. I believe this album is timeless.
“Lil Rich” and “Multiply” are two of my favorites. These are the first songs that caught my attention. I love how soulful they are and his vocals sound even better and bigger on these songs. “IDGAF” has some crazy harmonies and that’s one of the reasons why I love him. He’s great at harmonies and melodies. I really like how “Mrs. Jones” has elements from the 80s in the production. Gotta love hearing this keyboard !! I love the simplicity and efficiency on “Insecure”. This song feels good. “Freezing” might have one of the best hooks ever. It is mind blowing. A banger.
By fusing elements of r&b, soul, jazz and hip-hop on this record, Bren Joy is standing out from the crowd with his unique production and songwriting.
Albums can get pretty boring, especially in 2021, but Bren Joy managed to create something interesting and fresh. It looks like he has been getting more attention from the people of the music industry and from music lovers in general - it only makes sense.
I’m pretty sure Bren Joy will become one of the greatest artists ever and it’s only a matter of time until he blows up worldwide. I am only hoping to see him perform live before it happens :)
But for now, make sure to check him out if you haven’t yet. And if you already know him, PLEASE keep listening and supporting !! :)
