Ella Rosa

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Ella Rosa’s new single, I just had to feature her on my blog. I got super excited when I first heard “Just Me” because it is the type of music I listen to on a daily basis. The hook is addictive and beautiful (always been a fan of falsettos in choruses), I can’t get enough of it. Ella Rosa’s voice is magical and soulful, and 24 hrs takes the song to another level.

“Just Me” is a banger, so go stream it :)

Thank you so much Ella Rosa for the conversation ! :)

Introduce yourself - what's your story?

Hi Hello Hey! I am Ella Rosa, from Reading England. I am currently living and working in LA.

What did you grow up listening to?

Funny you should ask. I just found my first CD’s in England last week. They consist of Amy Winehouse, Elvis Presley, Erykah Badu, and Britney.

When did you know you could sing?

I used to force my friends to listen to me try to sing Beyonce when we were on lunch break. I don’t think i could sing back then but I definitely knew I loved to.

Do you remember a specific moment where music made a huge impact in your life?

When I moved to New York I was aggressively homesick to the point where I went into a pretty deep depression. I remember feeling the comfort of having music back then. Cliche to say but I think it saved me.

When did you start writing songs? What made you want to write in the first place?

During that time also, I was in my room in New York with my guitar making sad girl songs. I was 12 when I wrote my first song. I'm sure it sounded terrible but hey ho!

When did you decide to fully become an artist and release your original music?

I honestly don’t think I would have been able to do it without my friends who made me feel confident enough to release my vulnerable words out there.

Who was the first person to ever believe in you?

My dad for sure. Does that count?

"Just Me" is your new single - what made you want to release "Just Me" as a single?

This song had too much meaning to me,  to just whack it in the EP. I want people to take a second to actually listen to what I am saying in the song.

Could you describe the songwriting/production process for this song? How was it like to work with Geoffro and Kiah Victoria?

I was having a really bad day and realize that I was doing a lot of things to please others and I came to the session with that in mind so Kiah, Geoffro and I  started with that. You can hear the banjo vamp at the beginning of the track which we all loved. The song didn’t take that long to make honestly - I think it just clicked for us.

What made you want to collaborate with 24hrs on this record?

I actually wanted him to feature on my old song called 24 hours because I thought it be pretty funny to have the two names that but he really likes this song and his verse fits so perfectly.

What do you like the most about this song?

I like that I bring in a bit about my hometown in England.

What can you tell us about the artwork?

I took these pictures in New York with Sophie Hurr and my best friend Dean Anthony. My other amazing friend Andy Regos created the single cover with Sean Kennedy‘s art work on top. Family collaboration here <3

As an artist, what is the hardest part? And what is the best part?

I would say the hardest  part is everything else aside from creation (contracts, legal stuff, etc.) my favorite part is to get to put my feelings into something tangible and digestible.

What are your thoughts on today's music industry? If you could change one thing, what would it be?

We need more women up in here.

What biggest life lessons have you learned so far?

Work hard. Stay humble. Be loyal.
