I fell in love with Emily Rowed’s music ever since I interviewed her for the release of her debut album April in 2019. “Watercolors” and “Pinball” are my favorite songs from her and I still listen to these songs on a daily basis, especially “Pinball”. This song is fucking incredible.

She’s raw and honest with her art and she’s staying true to who she is as an artist. This new EP is emotional, real and beautiful. “Let Me Hurt” is my favorite song off this project. It is phenomenal. I’m sure she has a lot of music to share with us this year but for now, go stream Crying in Cars and make sure to follow her :)

Congrats Emily on the release of this beautiful new EP !!

Hi Emily - happy new year! How are you?

Happy new year! Doing well, trying to take things slow.

Crying in Cars is your new EP - how does it feel like to release this brand new project?

Releasing this EP feels like closure, like finishing the story. I'm ready to give it away. These songs have lived in my head and on my computer for quite awhile - I'm ready to tell the next story.

What's the story/inspiration behind Crying in Cars

Crying in Cars is about what meets you while you're alone. I find out how I'm really doing when I take a solo drive. These songs are intimate like that.

Listen to Crying in Cars on Spotify. Emily Rowed · Album · 2021 · 7 songs.

Could you describe the songwriting/production process? Who helped you create it?

These songs were written months and years apart. It was written and recorded in homes, small studio and a tiny writing room. Some collaborators include Ruslan Odnoralov (Lennon Stella, RUELLE) and Warren Rikker (Lauryn Hill, The Fugees).

What different topics are you talking about on this EP?

These are songs for people in my life. They are songs about loss, longing and love.

What do you like the most about this project?

We kept it raw, most of the songs are what we captured the day we wrote it.

What was the hardest part about making this EP?

Trying to wrap it up with a 6 different teams involved in a pandemic!

What made you want to name your EP Crying in Cars

I wanted to pay homage to the reveals and the healing that driving in a car alone gives to me.

What did you learn about yourself after finishing this EP?

That my depth of honesty will equal my depth of happiness.

What can you tell us about the artwork?

The songs are cinematic, emotional, dramatic, I wanted the cover to represent that. Also, since the first say I saw my neibeighbors car I've been saying I'm going to shoot with that car.

What major life lessons have you learned in 2020?

That creativity comes in many forms for me. That my anger only hurts me.

What are your goals for 2021?

To surround myself with loving creatives and tell more stories and finish writing a book.

What message do you want to deliver to the world?

That you can be brave enough to look at and feel the pain that feels too scary. That the depth of honesty with pain with all be the depth of joy you can find.
