Indie pop duo Pete + Sara has released their first single of 2021. It’s called “Get It Together” and it’s a bop.

"This song might as well be the story of my life. I say the chorus to myself daily so It felt natural to turn it into a song. Pete created a sick beat and it came out way cooler than the original concept,” says Sara.

Formed in 2018, the LA-based duo released their debut EP Crazy Love in 2019. They’re now getting ready to release their debut album Let’s Make It Complicated, to be released later this year.

“Get It Together” is now available worldwide :)

Introduce the band - what's your story?

Hey! We’re Pete and Sara. We met back in college when we were both on our own music ventures until I joined Peter's band Act As If back in 2010. After 10 years playing off and on together we had talked for so long about starting to write together and in 2018 we finally made it a reality and it’s been a blast ever since. I think in our Instagram bio it says, “We write songs and pretend to be each other’s therapist”.  That pretty much sums it up.

How would you define Pete + Sara?

Pete and Sara is a fun marriage of both of our different writing and production styles. Bringing together the Alternative edge that Peter provides and pairing it with Sara’s brighter pop sensibilities...the songs end up in a cool, Julia Michaels-ish vein.

"Get it Together" is your new single - what's the story/inspiration behind this single?

I sent Peter a voice memo of the Chorus to this song. I’m pretty open about the many struggles of being a human and the thought “will I ever get it together” probably crosses my mind daily. Thus, a song was born. I’m banking on the hope that maybe I’m not the only one who feels that way.

Could you describe us the songwriting/production process behind this single? Who helped you create it?

I had written the chorus to the song and sent that idea to Peter. We then got together to hash out the rest of the lyrics and settle on a feel for the song. Then Peter got to work and did all the production. Usually during the vocal recordings is when we will switch up any production changes and add all the vocal layering which I’m a big fan of.

What do you like the most about this song?

I love the laid back vibe of the song and the harmonic voice layers on the chorus. It’s totally different from any of the songs we had written before it and definitely different than our own personal writing styles. We were both super happy with how it turned out.

What made you want to release "Get it Together" as a single?

I think we both just really love this one. The beat is sick and easy to dance and sing along with and we both just feel like the message is very relatable. We wrote it before 2020 become what it was, but now especially more than ever I think people can identify with the sentiment.

What can you tell us about the artwork?

We had a photo shoot with a very talented photographer who’s a great friend of ours, Shauna Miller. She snapped some photos around Peters apart building to keep a casual vibe because I think these songs lend themselves to that.

What do you like the most about making music together?

I think after 10+ Years of friendship and making Music together you definitely reach a level of comfortability that feels very familial and creates a very non stressful environment to create. We both have similar personalities and could get talking for hours about the most random, bizarre things, then focus back in to finish a song. We can be very honest in our opinions without the hurt egos and that’s a breath of fresh air. Long story short, it’s fun and low pressure.

You released your first EP together in 2019. How did things evolve for you as a band since the release of that EP?

Our first EP was probably more of an experiment for both of us. I think it really solidified that we had a good thing going. We got really positive feedback from our listeners and it helped Peter and I start to get into a groove and motivated us to continue on.

What do you want to accomplish professionally and personally?

I think professionally we would love to see more of our songs in TV and movies. I think personally I’m already accomplishing the dream of getting to do something I love with solid people.

What major life lessons have you learned in 2020?

Kleenex is a decent substitute for toilet paper.

What are your goals for 2021?

I think as far as the band goes our goal for 2021 is to release all the new songs we’ve been sitting on and write a bunch more. My personal goal for 2021 is to breathe :)
