Emmy Adelle

I’m proud and happy to share this interview with singer/songwriter/producer Emmy Adelle who has just released her debut single “Over”.

With a unique tone and a captivating production, the Miami-based artist painted a vulnerable and honest first single that dives into the messiness of young love and heartbreak.

“‘Over’ is a deeply personal track that discusses stuff we all go through but rarely admit out loud. I wrote it during a pretty crazy time in my life, trying to make sense of the highs and lows of a situationship that felt like a rollercoaster. The lyrics capture those fleeting moments of happiness and thrifted jeans mixed with the sting of separation. It's a snapshot of a spark that was both intense and short-lived,” she explains.

More music is on the way, but for now, “Over” is out now !!

Hi Emmy, how are you? What's your story?

Hi! I'm great. Thank you so much for having me. I grew up in the Chicago suburbs playing ice hockey and making music in my free time — think Troy Bolton, where you sort of have to choose between two passions that are complete opposites. My identity was always rooted in sports, but music was my true outlet. So, I played college hockey for a semester before transferring. Now in college at UMiami, I model, study economics, intern, and write/record/produce pop songs that capture real-time feelings.

What did you grow up listening to?

My parents always had a fun tune on in the house. My dad loves KISS, and my mom loves Elton John. Every time one of their songs started playing, I would throw on ripped skinny jeans, run to the guitar or piano, and attempt to jam along. How embarrassing. Even as a kid though, my favorites were always emotive songs, like "Your Song" by Elton.

What's your earliest musical memory?

Aside from singing OneRepublic songs twice in grade school talent shows, it has to be wanting to learn literally every instrument under the sun. In first grade, it was my dad's acoustic guitar. The next year, I took classical piano lessons and played my grandpa's harmonica. In fourth grade, I picked up the bass – both electric and the big upright one. In middle school, I played the drum set in my school's jazz band. Then, in high school I combined everything in Ableton Live (production software)!

When did you know you had to become an artist and release your original music?

It's weird because I grew up with zero connections to the music industry, but pretty much ever since I was a kid. Growing up as an only child was not super easy for me. I always felt kind of alone or like I was the odd one out. I was the "sporty girl", with shorter hair and basketball shorts, who played tackle football and ice hockey. This was something I would get teased about as a kid. Then, freshman year of college hit like a truck. I guess I had a "glow up" and began modeling, but my mental state was at an all time low —I quit college hockey, had an identity crisis, moved out of my freshman year dorm to live alone in an off campus apartment and produce music, and transferred schools. I'm also not good at talking about or expressing my emotions, so creating music has always been my therapy. I love it.

Could you list a few records that influenced the music you are making today?

Yes! Some huge influences on my music are:

Frank Ocean's "Channel Orange"

Olivia Rodrigo’s "SOUR"

Juice WRLD’s "Goodbye & Good Riddance"

Odesza’s "In Return"

"Over" is your debut single - how does it feel like to release your first song ever?

Unbelievable. Releasing music has been my biggest dream since I can remember, and until now, I was simply too scared to do so. Even if one listener enjoys it, that makes it all worthwhile.

Could you describe the songwriting/production process behind this song? When did you start working on it? Who helped you create it?

The songwriting and production process for "Over" was a journey. I started working on it about six months ago, laying in bed at 3am, after experiencing a situationship that was very short but very real. I collaborated with engineers Cole Kruggel (recording and mix) and Danny Garcia (master), who brought their amazing expertise to the track. We spent countless hours in the studio, experimenting with different sounds and lyrics until we found the perfect mix. The producer of "Over" is Arcane Beats, an incredibly talented musician.

What did you feel when recording it?

Recording "Over" was honestly an emotional rollercoaster. I felt everything from excitement to vulnerability, pouring my heart into every lyric and note while still going for that dreamy, nonchalant vibe that shines through in certain verses. The song begins with cinematic piano before electropop elements are introduced, so there are some nice mood changes throughout.

What's your favorite lyric on "Over"?

"Now I'm home from Paris fashion week. Put your hand on my shoulder, tell me it's not over. But you're looking straight through me." I loved writing this. There seems to be a fascination with glam, especially on social media. It's crazy because we all know that nobody's life is perfect, even though we all try to portray it like that. Being a model in the heat of the social media era, I've had people ask me what could possibly be wrong in my life after posting a couple pictures from a shoot. So the lyric reflects the contrast between the glamorous, fast-paced world of fashion/modeling and the emotional turbulence of a relationship on the edge.

What made you want to release "Over" as your debut single?

I chose "Over" as my debut because it smoothly blends both organic and electronic pop elements with layers that are melodic yet introspective. The song creates a soundscape that is both uplifting and melancholic. As a first single, this sort of variety seemed resonant.

What can you tell us about the music video?

In collaboration with Patrick Linehan's creative direction and videography, the video tells a moody perspective of the song, complimented by imagery of the hustle and bustle of New York City. Patrick and I focused on portraying the "I'm so done" feeling.

What's your number one goal with this first release?

Honestly, the ultimate goal is to positively impact fans in a similar way that my music has impacted me, whether it's through the lyrics, the story, or just the vibe. I'm also excited to get more involved with Miami's indie music scene and begin performing live.

In your opinion, what would make the world a BETTER place?

Ah, this is a wonderful question. Kindness always. Understanding that everyone is going through something, even if it doesn't seem like it. I also think that we are in a constant state of overstimulation with our phones and absorbing information about everything everywhere all at once. When we take some time to get to know ourselves better, the world becomes a better place.

What biggest life lessons have you learned so far?

Building and maintaining beautiful relationships has been one of the most valuable lessons. Surrounding yourself with supportive and loving people enriches your life and provides a strong support system during tough times.

What can we expect to hear/see from you next?

After dropping "Over" and perhaps another single or two, I would love to release an EP. There are a few different sounds I plan to venture into that are cinematic, "blast in the car" vibe, and vibrant. I can't wait to share everything. I'm also very excited to delve into live performances and sets in the near future! Thank you again for having me Better!
