"NIRVANA" is your new single and the final song on your MENTAL EP - what's the story/inspiration behind this song? What made you want to release this single as the last song of your EP?
NIRVANA is the light at the end of the tunnel. The EP goes through a lot of lower frequency and travels up to the highest frequency of all- enlightenment. The MENTAL EP really is a healing journey and NIRVANA is capturing the light at the end of it all.
Could you describe the songwriting/production process for this song? When did you start working on it?
NIRVANA was written and recorded in LA a while ago with my producer and Anushka Jag who is an artist from India. We really weaved in some Indian-pop inspired elements and some Sanskrit chanting aswell to subliminally heal. The chant at the start of the song means “out of the darkness and into the light”. I was going through some stuff but equally finding a lot of power in spirituality and my intuition, which is want NIRVANA is about- encompassing it all, shadow and light.
You work with Indian pop artist Anushka Jaag on this song - what made you want to collaborate with her? How did you two meet?
We met in LA through our producer and I had recently collaborated with an Indian designer I met in New York. I was super inspired by his fashion show at NYFW and it made me want to capture the elements and oneness in a song, like he does with his luxury handbag designs. The stars aligned meeting Anushka who also shares a love for spirituality. She has a spiritual-pop song called “Rebirth” I am obsessed with and loved collaborating with her.
What did you feel when recording this song?
This song honestly brings me into my power. Reminds me of my connection and oneness with nature and the collective. That’s what I want it to do for others- integrate their shadows and embrace all elements within themselves.
What's your favorite lyric on "NIRVANA"?
“I’m with my shadow now, she’s part of my strongest self”- as a shadow work queen this is how I’ve found my power.
What do you like the most about this song?
The frequency it’s at gives you no choice but to elevate.
What can you tell us about the music video?
I recently got back from India! To shoot the music video. I manifested collaboraters along the way. Travelled the whole country. Got invited to a 4 day Indian wedding and filmed there in the Himalayas. It was everything I wanted NIRVANA to encapsulate. I’ve also chosen to edit it myself as it’s so special to me.
What biggest lessons have you learned since the beginning of your career?
You have to be the captain of your own ship. Be obsessed. You want to be above average so don’t act like the average joe.
Any upcoming project(s)?
I am just about to head off to LA and start working on my first ever album! And in the preproduction stage of my first short film based around my song “Siamese twins”.
