Hi Magnus, thank you so much for taking the time to answer my questions. How are you? What's your story?

I’m great! Thank you for the opportunity to be able to share a little bit about me and the music.

I was born and raised in LA, my first taste of music was piano lessons when I was 5 years old, as my family has always been super into the performing arts, and my mom really wanted me to play an instrument. I got into Jazz and started songwriting when I was 13, as well as getting into singing, although I didn’t start taking lessons until I was around 14. In middle school jazz band I started hanging out with my now very close friend Gabe Yaron, and we started collaborating and really getting into writing music together. Gabe’s an extremely talented producer who I’m so fortunate and grateful to be working with; He’s just one of those freakishly gifted guys who works his ass off, and honestly I’m not sure what I would do without him. When I turned 18, I was lucky to have one of my songs get some attention from the radio station KCRW, as It was chosen for the Young Creators Showcase, and I got to perform at a venue called the Mayan back in May of 2022. That first show sparked a mix of performances of my own work throughout the end of highschool and my freshman year of college, where I continued to release a few more songs.

I’m now a sophomore at USC, continuing to write and make music, honestly, just trying to make this whole music thing work! I have a lot of songs in the vault and I’m so excited that I’m finally gonna put them all out, and share them with the world!

What did you grow up listening to?

I grew up listening to a mix of a lot of things, when I was heavy into Jazz I was listening to a lot of Bill Evans, Oscar Peterson, and Miles Davis. I would sit down at the piano and try and transcribe all their solos, helping develop my ear. I also liked a lot of Tom Misch, Still Woozy, and Bruno Major, stuff that was more on the alternative side. Most recently, I’ve been super fond of Bruno Mars, Ruel, and a splash of Harry Styles.

When did you know you could sing?

I remember when I was super little in elementary school, my music teacher told me I had a really good ear, and so I just kept that in the back of my head until I really became serious about it when I was around 13. That being said, It took a lot of work and practice to develop my voice, as there were a lot of things that I couldn’t do back then that just took hard work and practice.

When did you know music was more than just a hobby? What/who gave you the confidence to be an artist and release your original music?

There was this day where I woke up and went straight into writing a song, and I remember going into my room sometime in the morning, maybe 10 am. When I finally was done I thought it was maybe 1 or 2, but when I walked outside it was completely dark. That’s when I realized, “Oh wait, I really like this, and I think I could maybe do this for real”. Basically my thought process was, If time goes by this damn quickly with music, I feel like I should at least try it.

Who was the first person to ever believe in you professionally?

It was both my parents, I’ve been so lucky to have a strong support system that believes in me.

"Missed Your Chance" is your new single - what's the inspiration/story behind this song?

Missed Your Chance is about having a partner, that you think could be someone you really end up liking, but then they start being weird and playing games so you get outta there, cause that person missed their chance. It’s basically sending the message of like, “Bye! I have better things to do than to get wrapped up in your games.” HOWEVER, it’s not meant to mean it’s just like, ok I’ll go live my life somewhere else, it’s all good!

What did you feel when recording this song?

I had a blast recording this song, I was just bouncing around having a good time!

What's your favorite lyric on "Missed Your Chance"?

My favorite line is “ I don’t need your bullsh*t baby I’m so over it” I think it sums up the song in a couple of words.

What do you like the most about this song?

I love how upbeat the song is, and how it grooves even though the song is about losing someone you thought you liked. However, instead of being sad about it, it’s all upbeat and carefree! Don’t get me wrong, I think sad music is some of the most impactful and beautiful artistry there is, but I just think for Missed Your Chance, keeping it upbeat was definitely the move.

What can you tell us about the artwork?

The artwork is a photo of me with a tie on and flowers sitting on a bench, it alludes to a few themes in the music video, but the main idea was to make it seem like I was stood up on a date.

What do you want people to feel when listening to this song?

I want them to feel happy, and carefree. I want them to be able to listen to the song anywhere they want, whether it be in the car, or on the treadmill.

As an artist, what is the hardest part? And what is the best part?

I think the hardest part is making content for social media, especially in this era of music. It can be really tedious sometimes as well as the field, in general, being really competitive. The best part to really focus on is making music that I love.

What biggest life lessons have you learned in 2023?

The best life lesson I learned last year is to stay patient, and when it comes to my music, to just trust the work and the time put in.

What are your goals for 2024?

I have some lofty goals, but I want to put out the most music I’ve ever put out this year, as well as putting out my most streamed song. My biggest goal is also to open for someone on a tour.

In your opinion, what would make the world a better place?

I think the world can be a very mean place, so if people were just kinder to one another, even just a little bit, it could help a lot.
