Omido

Omido is a producer/DJ based in Austria. Discovering him through his “Toxic” cover was a great surprise.

I don’t always love covers but if it brings something fresh and interesting then I’m all for it. Omido’s rendition of “Toxic” is absolutely mind-blowing. The guitar is incredible, Rick Jansen’s vocals are brilliant and Omido perfectly incorporated his own musical signature, which makes it a GOOD cover. It is honestly a big risk to cover timeless songs like “Toxic” but Omido did a great job.

Omido’s ability to create timeless melodies by using organic instruments such as guitars is making him one of the most promising producers/artists. Go check him out !!

“Toxic” is out now :)

Introduce yourself - what's your story?

Hi, I'm Omido. I grew up in a small town near Vienna, Austria. Learned to play the guitar when I was 15 and started producing when I was 18. When I started to study Media Technology, a colleague of mine and me founded Omido as a university project and somehow it really took off !

What did you grow up listening to?

I grew up listening to mostly metal and harder stuff. One of my favorite bands ever is Bring me the Horizon, I'm a fan of them since I was 14 and I still am today. What I love about them is that they just don't stop evolving.

When did you realize you had to become an artist and release your original music?

Well, when I started enjoying playing the guitar I knew I wanted to be an artist. I started producing and somehow got stuck in the drum'n'bass scene. After years of DJing and making underground music, I picked up that forgotten guitar and decided it's time to record some riffs. Omido was born that day (:

How would you define Omido, the artist?

I wouldn't. I don't.

"Toxic" is your new single - what made you want to cover this song?

I covered toxic because 1. it's just a timeless banger and a great song for its songwriting. I heard numerous interpretations of it before and I decided to give it my own spin. Secondly, it kinda represented the current state of my emotional well being. Being in a somehow toxic relationship and getting stuck in the dichotomy of it.

Could you describe the production process for this cover? What inspired you to make this specific version?

I just wanted to make it in my own style which is slow and guitar influenced !

What made you want to collaborate with Rick Jansen on this song?

Rick Jansen.. great guy, worked with him before. The nature of his rough and smokey voice just fitted so well with the instrumental.. Would've been absolutely nuts to not have him performing on this song !

What do you like the most about this song?

The outro.

What can you tell us about the artwork?

The Artwork is made by Tom Evans, Cloudkid's graphik designer. He perfectly interpreted the song's message: "My heart says yes but my brain screams no."

What are you looking for in artists when collaborating with other artists?

Mostly for Vocals because I'm a producer myself haha I'd only collaborate with another producer if it's either a lot of fun or very interesting style.

As a producer, what equipments and softwares do you usually use?

I got a epiphone guitar, Yamaha hs7 Speaker, a little midi keyboard and a shitton of plugins. For Basses, my go to plugin is serum.

What advice would you give to new producers?

Stop making music and get a real job. Just kidding, do whatever floats your goat and hang in there. Believe in what you do and have enough trust in yourself to formulate your ideas. Mastering the craft of music-production takes time, so don't be too hard on yourself when you can't achieve the sound you like. Focus more on the actual ideas.

What are your thoughts on today’s music industry?

The music industry always was kind of f*cked and it might stay like this, but in general I really love meeting and connecting new people in the industry. This is really what it's about for me.

How's the music scene in Austria?

Drum'n'bass, Techno and hiphop. This is what happens here. Haven't found my place here yet tbh.

What biggest lessons have you learned since the beginning of your career?

It's about teamwork. You can't do everything yourself. It's more fun working with teams anyway.

In your opinion, what would make the world a better place?

Gratitude and empathy for others.
