Introduce yourself - what's your story?

Hi! I’m Zoe Zobrist. I was raised in Texas and moved to California when I was 20 years old. I'm a singer/songwriter, I ride motorcycles, I’m a big natural wellness enthusiast, and I care deeply about mental health due to my own life experiences.

How would you define Zoe Zobrist, the artist?

Zoe Zobrist, the artist, comes from the heart. I write out of necessity and I have since I was 7. Songwriting helps me make sense of everything in the world. I hope that my music can be a friend to people.

"Fade Away" is your new single - what was the inspiration behind this single?

“Fade Away” is about growing pains. I've experienced so much transformation over the years, so many new situations, places and feelings. Being someone who deals with PTSD, anxiety and depression can make the coming of age experience that much harder. The single voices my desire to feel more complete and peaceful, but also to embrace the process it takes to get there.

Could you describe the songwriting/production process for this specific single? When did you start working on it? Who helped you create it?

I actually started writing this single a couple of years back. My good friend Ethan Kauffman, who has produced & mixed a lot of my music, had set me up in a writing session with Jarrod Gorbel (The Honorary Title/Night Terrors of 1927.) When we wrote “Fade Away” I absolutely loved the song but I didn't feel like it was time to put it out yet. Recently I kept singing the song in my head so I finished it up and recorded it! I played guitar and sang on it in a live room set up. It was very organic and I love how it turned out. I decided I wanted to put some room chatter over certain parts to give a sort of 'peace within chaos' feeling.

What did you feel when writing this song?

I felt pretty lost at the time of writing this song. I was living in LA trying to keep everything together. But I was still optimistic and loved making music.

What's your favorite thing about this single?

It fits me really well. I feel like I can relate it to multiple seasons of my life.

What made you want to release "Fade Away" as a single?

I feel like it represents me well as an artist and means a lot to me.

What does it mean for you to be an artist?

To be an artist, to me, is to be honest about your human experience and put emotions/experiences into a tangible form. It's communication on the most heartfelt level.

What does songwriting make you feel?

More emotionally collected, relieved, grateful, proud.

In your opinion, what makes a good song?

Realness. When you can feel the artist's emotion and personality within it.

What biggest lessons have you learned since the beginning of your career?

Being "true to yourself" is not just a cliche thing people say. It's actually really hard to do. Especially being a woman in the music industry; so many people try to tell you what you should and shouldn't be. What is and isn't good. Learning to trust myself and my intuition - it's something I strive to do better every day.

What are your thoughts on today's music industry? If you could change one thing, what would it be?

I love the ability to connect and collaborate with people from all over the world via social platforms etc.

If I could change anything, it would be to make the music industry a safer space for women. I think it's getting better but we are not there yet.

Besides music, what are you passionate about?

People. Their experiences, their healing. I really want to work with women recovering from abuse and trauma in some way. I also am really passionate about holistic health and wellness.

What biggest life lessons have you learned so far?

Do things that challenge and inspire you. There is so much growth in uncertainty and following your wild ideas.

In your opinion, what would make the world a better place?

Normalizing "doing the work." Supporting people more wholeheartedly though their journey. More access to quality mental health resources.

What message do you want to deliver to the world?

To help people feel less alone through their experiences. To empower people to live their most authentic life.
