Ruel: That 4th WALL world tour that changed the game
Last Thursday, I was in Paris for Ruel’s show. I still think about this show because I’m pretty sure I witnessed the beginning of something huge for him.
I wasn’t expecting much before going to this show. I was only going because I’ve been listening to his music for a long time and seeing him live was something I could definitely enjoy. So I did. I bought my ticket and thought “I don’t care I’ll just go by myself”. I’m at a point in my life where I don’t want to stop myself from doing things I love. So I did. Even though a friend ended up coming with me, I didn’t mind doing things by myself. That’s how powerful music is.
“distance”, “Younger”, “Hard Sometimes”, “Face to Face”, “GO ON WITHOUT ME” are some of my favorites and these are the songs that made me want to go to his show. (Too bad "distance" was not part of the setlist though ! One of the best songs ever)
But what an incredible show it was.
Don’t expect to just hear pop music when going to his show. It’s rock, soulful, EDM, alternative. It’s uptempo until it gets sad and emotional. It's just him on the keyboard, it's him grabbing the electric guitar. It’s us singing along to all of his songs. Let’s not forget about his two musicians who were absolutely incredible. This show had a little bit of everything and that’s what makes it a great show. This artist showcases his versatility during his live performances and that is mind-blowing to watch and hear.
Vocally, I knew he was good but this guy can fucking sing. I was mostly impressed at how soulful his vocals could get. Absolutely amazing. I'd love to hear him record a few r&b/soul songs at some point. How sick would that be?
His stage presence was everything. The crowd and the energy were insane. The dude loves to sing and perform. You can tell that just by watching and listening to him. The way he changed some of the verse melodies into something more colorful and soulful, the way he sang those adlibs, the way he connected with the crowd… Those little details are showing how much he loves what he does. I am not going to give every detail on the show because everyone will need to go see him at some point to understand how big of a rock star he is.
I went to this show feeling sick - I was tired, I was having heart palpitations and I wasn’t sure if I’d even be able to enjoy the show, but live music made everything better. At the end of the show, I told my friend "ok so he's only 20 years old now. Give him 20 more years and he's going to be one of the greatest legends out there". And I have zero doubt about that. We saw him perform in a pretty small venue but I'm sure he will sold out stadiums pretty soon. So go see him before the rest of the world :)
We witnessed something important here and It was an honor to watch him shine.
