Dea Doyle

Dea Doyle has just released one of the coolest tracks of the year. Titled “One For Me” feels nostalgic and new at the same time. Sonically, it reminds me of some of those UK songs we would hear in the early 2000s. But it also has a different sound that stands out from the crowds.

Her soulful and unique vocals make the song even more special.

Take a moment to listen to ”One For Me”, available now !

Hi Dea, how are you? What's your story?

Hey, I’m great, thank you for asking !  I’m a singer/songwriter from west London. I’m 24 years old and I have just released a new single.

"One For Me" is your new single - what's the inspiration/story behind this song?

This song is about meeting somebody and finishing their Guinness (I was just showing off really) and the relationship that flourished from that silly encounter.

When did you start working on "One For Me"? Could you describe the songwriting/production process for this song? Who helped you create it?

I remember writing the chorus one afternoon in my bedroom about a year ago and then finished the rest a couple days later. I took the song to Ed who produced it and  started recording it straight away. It all happened quite quickly really.

What did you feel when recording this song?

It just felt really fun and light hearted. I think my favourite part to record was all the vocal layers and harmonies as they elevated the song so much.

What's your favourite lyric on "One For Me"?

I think my favourite line is the first one ‘I never thought I’d be here, when I sat with you and I finished your beer’

What made you want to release "One For Me" as a single?

It’s one of my favourite chorus’ of mine as I think it’s quite catchy, so felt single worthy in that sense I guess.

What do you want people to feel when listening to this song? What message do you want to deliver?

I feel like we live in generation of dating apps and social media , but this song is about the beauty of meeting your next love through a chance encounter. So I think I want people to not feel the need the chase relationships, enjoy being single and when it happens ,it happens. It’s also a happy, light-hearted song so I want people to just enjoy it too.

What can you tell us about the artwork?

The artwork is one my favourite things about the single. My friend Hermione Ross is a wonderful artist so I asked her to do a commission for this single and it couldn’t be more perfect. It’s meant to be me drinking a Guinness with someone.

What are your thoughts on today's music industry?

I think it’s so hard to make money from music until you have quite a following and I think that makes it so hard for people to pursue being a musician which means there’s so much wasted talent.

As an artist, what are the biggest challenges? And what is the best part?

I think I find the biggest challenge is having constant self-belief. I think it’s so hard to constantly back yourself all the time and believe the music you’re making is good. I think the best part is after releasing a song and seeing people genuinely enjoy it.

Could you list a few records that influenced the music you are making today?

This is a tough one:

  • One of the Boys - Katy Perry

  • Frank - Amy Whinehouse

  • Fine Line - Harry Styles

  • Rumours - Fleetwood Mac

In your opinion, what would make the world a better place?

If women were in charge.  I think there would be less wars.

What biggest life lessons have you learnt this year?

Nothing is permanent, the good and the bad.
