Hi LYRA, how are you? What's your story?
I’m bloody fantastic. Currently on tour and loving life in my stage sucky in knickers and thigh high boots.
"The Ending" is your latest single - what's the inspiration behind this song?
It is the juiciest closure anthem I have ever written and the most satisfying full stop I have ever put down on paper. It is this song that marks me finally getting over my ex relationship and not wanting to write about him anymore.
Could you describe the songwriting/production process behind "The Ending"? Who helped you create it?
It started as a sad banger and after a good few listens I decided enough is enough with letting my ex control my feelings.
So I sat down on my own at home on my sofa and re-wrote most of the song. It’s time people know how badly I was dumped and I’m not covering for him anymore.
What's your favorite lyric on "The Ending"?
”It’s not a conversation when I'm not participating”.
What made you want to release "The Ending" as a single?
Because it’s time for the next chapter so it felt right to end with the ending.
What do you want people to feel when listening to this song? What message do you want to deliver?
That breakups don’t define you, that whenever reason someone doesn’t want to be with you is on them, not you. You’re fabulous.
What can you tell us about the artwork?
Well I never dislocated my hip and ended up ripping a hole in my pants!
How's it like to be a woman in the music industry? What advice would you give to women out there?
It’s hard, very hard. Keep going, if you don’t stop they will have to notice you. Embrace being a woman and stand up for yourself.
What are your thoughts on today's music industry? If you could change one thing, what would it be?
I wish we could go back to the days when music was the ultimate art form and albums were seen as magical masterpieces, not 30 seconds of a viral video.
What is the proudest moment of your career so far?
Having my debut album go to number 1. It was the most amazing day of my life.
What advice would you give to young artists?
Be you, there is only one you and trying to be someone else just kills your uniqueness.
What biggest life lessons have you learned this year?
Good things come to those who wait (and work their asses off) . We live in a very fast world but sometimes the long road is the most rewarding.
In your opinion, what would make the world a BETTER place?
Spreading more love. Being kind to each other, treating people how you would like to get treated.
